What American accent do you have?

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

My Results:

Midland

("Midland" is not necessarily the same thing as "Midwest") The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate.  Since it's a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from the Midland.

I got Midland too, which isn't surprising since some people think I'm not from Texas because I don't have any accent whatsoever even though I was born and lived here most of my life.

took this for a laugh, got this:

Northeastern

Most people don't know it but this is actually what dictionaries are based on.  If you don't believe me, pick up any American dictionary and look up "source" and "sauce" and you'll see they are written with the same vowel pronunciation.

Midland as well.  I'm not surprised the Brits are getting the Northeastern.  The non-rhotic English used there is similar to what is common in England as well.

Midland, even though I grew up in NC. When I was waiting tables, I actually used a southern accent- although not a heavy one, just a slight one with some "yalls", because that seemed to work best.

"Midland." I'm actually pissed off by that, especially because I've been there, and those people don't sound like me.

Oh, and this would be my 386th post here. w00t.

In a way, I know what you mean.  I remember my Californian cousin once telling me I had a Southern accent.  I'd been to Georgia and Alabama and Texas and I don't have an accent like the people who live there.

I got Midland. I'm fucking pissed because I'm from Boston, yet I know I sound nothing like midlanders. And yeah, I don't have a horrible Boston accent, but still....midland?

I didn't even have to take it to tell you I have a Boston accent.  It's not super thick, but it's definitely there.  Sure enough, that's what I got.

eddie, where in Boston are you?  Are you in school up here or something?

Midland, was my results. Odd.

Though, when I go outside of New England and talk to locals from another area -- like say to Nebraska or Cali or Florida -- people easily pick up my accent. They usually ask, "Are you from Massachusetts?"

Yes, I definitely talk like a person from MA, w/ my accent and all.

Well, execpt for poomcgoo, apparently if you are from North America you have a Midland accent and if you are from Britain you have a Northeastern accent.  Haha.

I've lived in Dorchester basically my whole life. I went to Merrimack College in North Andover and recently graduated, so I'm staying in Boston for the forseeable future. Where are you at?

Dude, that wicked sucks.

No, no, you have to say "Dude, that sucks wicked bad." Get the placement of wicked right!  :P

Good idea, but I think the implementation needs work.  Maybe people don't realize how off their pronunciation really is, so everyone comes out Midland, where we really know how to talk.    ;)
