Vacation is here
« on: Saturday, September 22, 2007, 01:01:32 AM »
Going to Texas to visit my Dad and gonna hang out with Tet as we go see a metal show in San Antonio. Just thought Id give the update since I won't be really gone as my Dad has internet and Im sure Tet does too. I'm packing now, then I must drive to Nashville to stay the night after which where my Dad and I will head to the airport. Will take pics as I'm sure some drunken hilarity will ensue.

Wish I could be there with you guys.  I'll be there in spirit.  Punch a few teenagers in the mosh pit for me!  And take pictures and stuff so I don't have to feel like I always miss out on everything cool because I'm old and my life is stupid.

It's OW Meet 1.2.

I won't miss the mosh pit, but I'll miss the rest.

Because of this thread, I had to look up Mosh Pit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosh

I find it interesting and slightly disturbing at the same time.

I don't know about taking pics at the concert but I'll definitely be taking pics of his stay here, I borrowed my friend's digital camera so I'll get them posted shortly after hopefully.

Awesome.

And Pug, moshing is basically just an excuse to hit people.  Anyone that says different is lying.  You go to a concert with angry music, take the gloves off, and more or less jump into other people repeatedly for no apparent reason.  If you're at a scary show with scary people, you might be on the lookout for the occasional (or frequent) fist flying in your face, but most places you'll just find normalesque people looking for a way to get out a little aggression doing something harmless.  It looks rather odd, but can be highly therapeutic.  And the therapy increases tenfold when you get to punch teenagers.

there's nothing like a good mosh. last time i was in the pit was seeing Rise Against, and going in i thought i'd be able to take out at least a handful of overconfident teenagers, but i ended up flying all over the place and dragging myself out after only three songs! so be warned, teenagers may be smaller than you, but they have near unlimited supplies of energy.

anyway, have fun and looking forward to the pics.

Well damn we hit our first snag, Pyro flew into Dallas-Fort Worth airport near where his father lives and was going to fly into San Antonio which is about 45 mins from me but his plane had mechanical problems.  No big deal though, so far, hes just going to have to drive from his father's place near Dallas to where I live, which is about a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive, a little delay but he should still get here today hopefully.

Ah yes, the travel woes.  We've come to expect those, either in the form of Pyro not getting a flight for standby reasons, or because someone hates Idol's train and wants it to sit in the middle of nowhere for hours so they can drive in new, even more nefarious conductors.

He just called about 20 minutes ago and he's close by, I'm guessing he'll be here in about 30-40 mins depending on traffic.  Japanese restaurant shenanigans will be happening soon after.

Have a Sapporo + sake for me.  And don't get him too drunk.  Just make him eat until the owners kick him out.

We just finished a game of Settlers of Catan and Apples to Apples, now after a break we are going to play some more Apples to Apples, and yes we watched Metalocalypse and it was totally metal....and brutal.  What's funny is I ate a lot more than him at the restaurant and he got that "big boy" comment and I'm heavier than him too.

Just got back from the concert... holy fucking christ it blew me away, I have been pwned by metal. We got their an hour early so Tet and I got up front easily but it didnt matter because honestly there wasnt a whole lot of people there. Seriously the White Rabbit, the actual show place, is small joint, and it wasnt all too full, but it still made for a comfortable atmosphere. The opening band was kinda cool too. First who played was Swallow the Sun, they were pretty cool, but a little laid back for a metal band but then again so is their music. Then came Insomnium, which was fucking amazing, pretty much every way you could think of how awesome they are listening to them on their albums is conveyed brilliantly on stage. Scar Symmetry was pretty amazing as well, I havent listened to them all that much, but they know how to put on a great show. After which, right before we left, I spotted the singer and guitarist to Insomnium just chilling outside by the merch stand, so we went and said some words on how they are great metal gods. So yea, awesome times.

Alright so I got back to my dads from Tets place, and I discovered I left my fucking camera there... argh! I had my case in my bag so I assumed it was already in there for some reason, I thought I had put it back in, but now that I think about it, I left it on the shelf case in the living room. Oh well, guess I have to drive back and get it  ;D, I wish, boo work. Well I had a great time, Tet and his various friends were all really cool people, hes even friends with Andrew WK!, I wish I could have stayed longer. We played some Catan, Apples to Apples, this Star Wars card game with models which was pretty cool, some Guitar Hero, Guilty Gear, a good amount of Red Star which I brought over, and even participated in some nerf gun hilarity. I took some pictures but Tet took the majority of them, sadly we didnt take any at the concert because we thought we werent allowed to and we didnt bring our cameras in. Oh well, now I must partake the drive back to Nashville tomorrow as my car is in really bad condition and I'll need to use the spare one my dad has to get to work.

Ok, well I got the pics loaded from my camera onto my portable hard drive, I'll try to make a thread tomorrow of a rundown of the meet, kind of like a journal thingie that Que(maybe Idol?) did for the OW Meet.
