I'm in a bad mood... or something
« on: Tuesday, October 09, 2007, 12:38:24 PM »
So I'm sleeping away and its about an hour and a half before I have to go to work. I slowly start to wake to the sounds of knocking at my door, I have no idea who it could be so I'm not answering it. The knocking gets more furious and I hear a lot of voices, I get a little confused and am still certain whoever wants to reach me at this hour is going to have to fucking call and leave a message. About 20 minutes go by and they are pounding at the door and I start hearing a car horn go off, at this point Im starting to get fucking scared and pretty fucking pissed. I eventually figure out who it is, its my friend from Nashville with his girlfriend and his brother, now instead of being a little relieved and happy this actually makes me even more pissed because he knows my work schedule and he damn sure knows im asleep. In fact they made so much noise they started to rouse neighbors. I eventually cave and open the door, they come rumbling in giggling like school girls, all like "Wakey wakey!!" Meanwhile im pretending that im tired at this point but Im more or less trying not blow up and murder them all. Why he didnt call me and tell me of his plans is beyond me, and I've been trying to convince him for a while to come and hang out on a weekend im off, but he's always blown me off by some mundane stupid reason. Now all of a sudden he comes up on a whim while I have to go to work, and he knows this, but somehow expected me to call in. Nice one man!!

I don't know if im just being a grouch or if I am really justified at being pissed. Now Im tired and I dont want to go to work.

I'd say you are pretty justified.  I'd be pissed off too.

What an asshole, I would have told him to piss off and call ahead of time.

That's a tough one to field.  If they're good friends, you don't want to screw that up. And then again, you don't want them thinking it's OK to do this whenever.  Why don't you put on your best face, then at some point, pull your friend aside and tell him to give you fair warning next time.  Work, sleep and not having the shit scared out of you are all important considerations.

When I read that, I got ticked off, especially at the "wakey wakey" part, but I can imagine a couple of really close friends doing that, and me smiling in spite of myself. In face there have been similar situations where despite my best attempt to blow off at my friends, I have been unable to keep a straight face.

But yea that is really annoying and frustrating. You have to be a really close friend to get away with that.

I had a friend that used to do that to me all the time, it wouldn't have been so bad if I had actually liked him. He used to call me and say "I'll be there in ten min, get ready". I was ok if we got drunk, but last time he did it I had to ride with him, his gf and her sister for 2.5 hours listening to shitty music to see the Ripley's museum. On top of that, the deal was I would go if we could stop for a drink, he wouldn't even do that...I don't talk to that asshole anymore. If he calls me I just call him back about an hour later, that way he isn't conveniently driving by my house if he wants to hang out.

Yeah, I'd say you have every right to be pissed off.  My friends used to drop in on me an awful lot when I lived at home in the basement apartment.  It was private and had its own door and all, so it was easy.  I liked it for a while until Julia and I got serious, then it sort of got rather annoying.  It generally didn't interfere with work or sleep because my schedule was more normal than my friends' schedules, so they couldn't really bug me at bad times.

You should tell him how much you hate what he did. That's why he's your friend, and your brother. He will understand. Do it in a nice way, but let him understand.

The first time the two of you are in agreement. Not surprising that it was over a violent act. :P
