Foundation 9 To Merge Collective And Shiny Studios reports that these two studios owned by Foundation 9 have been merged into one team based in Irvine, CA headed by Michael Persson. Word is the new studio, which does not yet have a name, does not have any redundant positions to eliminate, and the change "will enable greater capacity to create large-scale games based on big licensed properties." Word is:

The two studios are currently finishing work various titles, including Shiny's multiplatform title The Golden Compass for holiday release by Sega, and, says the release, the Collective's "large next-generation adaptation of a classic gaming franchise due for release in 2008" -- presumably its recently revealed collaboration with Konami on Silent Hill 5.

Said F9 COO David Mann, "Bringing the Shiny and Collective teams together into one larger studio will give them the scale and resources needed to deliver top-notch franchise-based releases across multiple platforms. We've already moved everyone under one roof, which will help to make a seamless transition for both teams."

I haven't paid any attention to Shiny since those horrible Matrix games.  I want Sacrifice 2, damn it!

I picked up Path of Neo last Sat. I'm already at the end, pretty much....
(click to show/hide)

But, yeah -- Path of Neo is a heck of a lot better than ETM was.

PoN sticks to what the game should stick to -- lots of fighting, lots of shooting, lots of breaking stuff, lots of explosions. And, you can upgrade Neo and his skills throughout the entire course of the game, which keeps the action fresh. Yes, that stuff is PoN at its best....

...But, the biggest problems w/ PoN are mixed framerates when the game doesn't even look that good -- framerates go from great to horrible depending what's happening on-screen -- and the lack of necessary storytelling/summarization of some events for those who ain't actually seen all three of the movies.
