Just watched Oliver Stone's JFK.
« on: Thursday, October 18, 2007, 02:22:32 PM »
Wow. Fantastic stuff.

Who knows who killed JFK and why... but if Oswald was setup, and wasn't one of the killers, then I really feel sorry for him.

Also the Abraham Zapruder footage of JFK getting shot multiple times was quite disturbing. It just simply disproves that there was a single shooter, as it clearly shows him getting shot multiple times.

edit:

By the way, I am not taking the entire movie as fact. I am just saying it was highly entertaining.

Well thank God for your edit.  That movie is fanciful fiction, nothing more.

Well the only thing I took as fact out of the movie was that there was more than one shooter.

Every account of what happened is unfounded, thats why this incident is the most fun to talk about.

It's pretty well confirmed that there was only one shooter and it was Oswald. And by pretty well I mean without a shadow of a doubt.

Still, good movie. "Back, and to the left..."

Theres always a shadow of a doubt, especially with so many things unexplained or inexplainable.

I think Oliver Stone is a tremendous twat.  That's really the only thing I can add to this discussion given that I haven't seen the movie and don't really have much opinion on JFK, heh.  Just never could stand Stone.  Either one, actually.

Everything has been explained. Every single argument against the fact that Oswalt killed him has a logical explanation. The facts are out there.

You mean things like "The Magic Bullet"? How Oswald's prints were never found on the gun? How about how not a single gunman, not even the best sharpshooters in the world, have ever been able to recreate Oswald's accuracy even though he apparently used a piece of shit mail order catalog rifle?

I don't know if Oswald actually killed JFK, but even if he did, theres no way he acted alone in the shooting.

Actually, yes. I mean every single one of those things has been explained.

Its been explained that theres no way it could happen, especially the magic bullet. I got this info from wiki:

Quote
According to the single bullet theory, a one-inch long, copper jacketed, lead core 6.5 millimeter rifle bullet fired from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository passed through President Kennedy’s neck, Governor Connally’s chest and wrist and embedded itself in the Governor’s thigh. In doing so, the bullet traversed 15 layers of clothing, 7 layers of skin, approximately 15 inches of tissue, struck a tie knot, removed 4 inches of rib and shattered a radius bone. The bullet that is supposed to have done all this damage was found on Governor Connally’s stretcher in the corridor at the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. It became a key Commission exhibit, identified as CE399. Its copper jacket was completely intact. The bullet’s nose appeared normal, but the tail was compressed laterally on one side.

Not only is it impossible for a bullet to do that, but for it to be intact as well? Thats impossible.

Despite my inclination to state the fact that you cited a theory, which is complete bullshit, as fact, here is my response:

It's so much more romantic to suspect that there is some deeper meaning to a situation than there actually is. It's so fucking boring to read into the facts! Let's speculate!

Its in the Warren Commission, since you believe the government to be correct on this I'm assuming that you also believe that the investigation conducted by them to also be correct.

I'm not a conspiracy nut, I really think we landed on the moon, Elvis/Tupac/Hoffa are all dead, there are no alien abductions and as much as I would love to make Bush a super bad guy, he was not behind 9/11. However, not everything should be taken as fact, especially when it doesn't make sense.

If you're not going on the government's assessment that Oswald did it, then why do you believe that?

Because of the facts. It's not like the government made a solid case back in the day, but in the ensuing decades, it has become clear that he is the killer.

Ok, lets both say that he is the killer. Do you think he planned and acted out on this completely alone?

Sure. His thinking was, "I work here. He is going to be driving by. I have sharpshooting experience. I can sneak a gun in here. I can kill him." It was that easy. Why is it so hard to comprehend?

There was the fact that there were no secret service agents guarding the perimeter at all and many witnesses claimed to have heard more than three shots. I know it sounds clichéd, but many claim they saw and heard a shot from the grassy knoll. On top of that, people who try to kill the president always take the credit for it, Oswald never did. Instead of talking and confessing, he was shot dead (without ever confessing) by a mafia associate with a moral conundrum of a single woman (Jackie) who had kids without a father. The government has used the mafia before, why wouldn't they use them for dirty work?

Everything that I say is a lie. I'm actually secretly working for the government. It's amazing that they have kept so many people in on the conspiracy, especially after so many years, but damn it, that's how powerful they are!

Sound, especial sharp sounds like gunshots, can do crazy stuff around buildings. Gunshots will echo and reflect off buildings, some people could confuse it for more than one shot and since the echo comes from another direction, they could confuse it for gunshots coming from a different place.

In a thread full of theories, thats mine.

I have no opinion, though I find the conversation interesting... but I will also add that yeah, gunshots can sound very odd.  I've lived and worked in some relatively bad neighborhoods, and it can sound perplexing when you've got buildings around.

I heard echoes and I've heard ducks quacking in caves, but I've never heard of a an echoing gunshot being confused with a separate gunshot with a sighting of someone also shooting.

You've heard ducks quacking in caves?

I've actually been caving (spelunking?) at a number of caves, and I've never seen a duck in one. Granted, I've only been in 10 or so caves. But there have been theories about ducks in other caves. The "Magic Duck Theory", as it is known.

Sorrry, its my jaded sense of humor, I'm kinda drunk so I won't be able to discuss this with adequate punctuation much longer.

You're punctuation is the last thing that you should be worried about!

Zing!

...sorry. That was kind of tasteless. The subtle humor in the rest of the thread was thrown out the window. But still. You asked for it.

I don't know what kind of portrait of myself has been hung on the wall, but you can throw whatever you want at it without remorse. I'll never enter an argument or discussion without expecting to be opposed...especially on this forum. I'm definitely knee deep in this thread, so feel no need to pull any punches because I'm won't do the same for you. I don't want you to feel that it's out of disrespect, but I believe things just as hard as you do, even if they oppose your views.

Honestly, I was just kind of fucking around. Everything that I said in this thread can be taken with a grain of salt, except for the "Magic Duck theory." That is serious. And it has followers, who shall not be named.

But really, were you serious? I  honestly thought you were joking. At least, near the end I did. You weren't knee deep in the thread until that last comment.

But you shouldn't portray yourself so aggressively. You seem to enter an argument expecting opposition. But you should go into an argument expecting compliance. Anything else fosters a defiant attitude that dictates the argument.

Anways, what the fuck? There's not any debate on the JFK issue to being with. Thank God this isn't in the Serious Topics board.

I always expect opposition on this forum, but that doesn't mean I try to provoke it. I've never even heard of "the magic duck theory".

I didn't feel that I came off aggressively, I felt that I portrayed my argument in a very polite and non threating way. I wasn't attacked in a malicious way, so why would I act out in a feral manner? I don't know what "the man" has you thinking about me, but I'm actually very easy to get along with.

What the media, or what anyone puts out into the public should also be taken with your statements: with a grain of salt.

I was hoping you could explain this magic duck theory to me, even if it should be taken with a grain of salt. I put soy sauce on everything I eat, if I'm going to swallow anything else, it only seems appropriate. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the lame duck theory, but I'm hoping you'll tell me. There is no need to hold back any thing you say, there is a chance it could be wrong, but thats the risk you have to take to get your very own word out.
