Arx Fatalis, for its 5th year anniversary, will be getting a new Collector's Edition over in France.

I wonder if that'll ever come to the USA, some day...

Of minor direct interest because it will only be available in France (at first, anyway) but Arkane has announced a special Collector's Edition of Arx Fatalis to celebrate it's fifth anniversary:

Arx Fatalis is an awesome game! Its kinda like Morrowind, but much more linear and structured (which isn't a bad thing). My favorite thing about this game was making a fire and cooking food like chicken, bread and apple pies.

I really liked Arx, as well.

One thing I think thing the game had a hell of a lot of atmosphere, to say the least. Arx is underrated and I do need to finish it.
 
One thing about Arkane Studios -- all their games, out-the-box, seem to be buggy. See Arx and Dark Messiah, out-the-box. Though, after a few patches, those games were the way they should've been straight-out-the-box. I hope they can change that, for future games -- getting them for the most part running fine and not-so-buggy, right-out-the-box.

To go right along w/ the Collector's Edition, for all who ALREADY own the game....

PATCH 1.18 released!

2.5 MB download, fixes a few things.

v1.18 Fix list:

    * Fixed D3D texture creation that triggered white textured objects / Characters on recent hardware configurations.
    * Fixed a crash on TNL Bump Mapping management.
    * Fixed several memory leaks.
    * Fixed the text font not being displayed on recent hardware configurations.
    * Fixed a specific crash on spells use.
    * Tweaked the Fireball spell damage rule, to make it less powerful & more balanced.
    * Fixed a bug where the game would quit if the ESC key was pressed during the New Game fade to black.

I'm definitely considering this.  I never got a chance to play it before and I feel bad I only spent $10 so far on GOG.com.

It's very... different.  And very good.  Typical fantasy in many ways, but with this sort of apocalyptic bomb-shelter kind of twist.  Everyone compares it, of course, to Ultima Underworld, except...

Well, Ultima Underworld looked like this:



And Arx Fatalis looks like this:





Neither is going to win any prettiness award any time soon, but the latter game is, at least, better realized being in the 3rd dimension.  Which is obvious, but my point is that during the creation of any giant underground world where you never see daylight, it's hard to avoid monotony, let alone when you're working in 2 dimensions instead of 3.  And I think these guys did a surprisingly good job making different areas and place to visit seem different and interesting despite the fact that the game, in other hands, might have simply looked like a giant cave from start to finish.

Arx is underrated and needs to be played.
I would love to see Arx 2.

As exciting as The Crossing sounds (I think it sounds pretty kick-ass), I'd rather have Arx 2.

Awesome. I got it on Steam (dont worry, someone gave it to me. I didnt pay for it), but I havent played it since Steam blows. Now I can go grab it cheap and feel good about it.

The odd thing is Version 1.19 is the newest version -- and it's been released on disc in the re-released version of the game called Arx Fatalis: Collector's Edition (Euro version) AND through GOG.com.

If you bought a (disc) version from JoWood, you're still stuck with Version 1.18. They are currently working on bringing Patch 1.19 to disc version owners, eventually.

I'm actually in unsure about the Steam Version. Is the Steam version 1.17? 1.18? or 1.19?
