Dungeon Runners downloader sucks
« on: Friday, October 26, 2007, 10:29:32 AM »
Really, how can they still make shitty downloaders that do the dumbest stuff? It seemed to work ok, even let me pause the download to continue later. It would even place a special icon on my desktop to use to resume.

Well last night was the last night of downloading. There was an option to run the installer as soon as it was done downloading but...nah, I would be asleep. I'll do it in the morning. Guess that was a mistake. I sit down at the computer and the download must be done because the window isn't there. No icon for the installer...couldn't find the file after checking some obvious locations. Whatever, I'll just load the downloader and check where it placed the file.

Oh. It puts it in My Documents/My Downloads. I'm so used to my torrents going into My Documents/Downloads that I completely forgot about the other directory. So I go there and...nothing. It appears that the downloader started over from zero already, deleting the 480MB file I had already downloaded. It wasn't even smart enough to check if I've already downloaded the fucking thing before.

So now I'm grabbing it direct from the FTP, fuck that downloader shit.

I got IDM as a way to snare FLVs from just about anywhere that serves them up; but it also claims to have the sort of functionality someone stuck in the last century (e.g., you) could really use to ramp up download reliability and performance.

Oh dont worry about that, Ive got a download manager. Use it all the time. And the DR downloader supported pausing and resuming. The problem was if you didnt have the downloader run the installer when it was finished you had no idea where it put the file, and running the downloader again simply to find out causes it to erase the already downloaded file. So now I have to download 500MB AGAIN because the program was retarded. Of course now I question if its worth it...

Next time do a search from the root, then sort by size or creation date.  Heh.  Shame you lost it just because you didn't know where it was (and some programmer hasn't been flogged enough).

Man, that sucks. Must have taken you quite some time to download it, too.

I ran the downloader a few days ago but it wouldn't even download. But I think that's more a problem with my connection than the downloader itself.
