Topic: So.... How's life?

I've effectively been gone the last 5 months or so, and I'm finally able to come back here on a more regular basis.  Things have definitely slowed some which is a little depressing.  Anyway, since I haven't been here much lately I thought I'd ask how everyone is doing.  my apologies if there has been an update thread like this recently.

I'm starting to get settled in to my new job and in my new house in Sierra Vista, AZ.  This is my first time living in a small town and the culture shock is definitely present.  There are quite a few chain stores here, but it seems like my list of things that I'll need to drive up to Tucson for is quickly growing.  There is also no night life to speak of around here, largely thanks to a huge military base that is sausaging up the entire town.  My roommate is a bit of a strange guy, but we seem to be getting along so far.  Our house is basically a steal for $1000 a month.  The place is a 4 bedroom and is around 1900 sq ft. and was built around 5 years ago.

I'll be spending the holidays away from my family this year which is going to be hard.  This will be the first time I've ever had to do it, and my mom is especially taking it pretty hard.  I am looking forward to catching up on the last 5 months in games and movies.  Unfortunately I won't have much time to do it for the next 6 months, so I'll probably end up falling even farther behind.  I hear Halo 3 came out, how was it?

Yeah, Arizona is a pretty boring place overall, everything closes early, even in Phoenix.  Nice scenery though.  The link for your pictures is not in your post it seems.  What exactly does your new job entail?

Living in small towns does suck if you are originally from a medium-large sized city, when I had to live with my family for about 9 months in a dinky town called Kyle, just outside of Austin, I nearly went crazy from boredom.  Now I live in medium sized college town called San Marcos which about 20-30 mins from Austin where I have just about all I need.

But I'm glad you seem to be getting settled.  I was always anxious to hear updates.  So where does the job go from here?  I've never known exactly what the details would entail.  I'd love to get an idea if you have the time.

yeah... its a Military intelligence base so they pretty much do conduct secret experiments at night.

Yeah its almost sad what passes for a mountain over here.  Someone was showing me around town the other day and told me the names of all the mountains.  I'm like..... they gave a name to that pile of rocks?


My roommate is a co-worker of mine he's a good guy, I'm thinking it will work out ok, especially since its only a 6 month lease.  Most of the nicer stuff in the house actually belongs to him.

You've got to be kidding me.  I only spend like $1200 on a 2 bedroom, and that's in the SF bay!  Why the hell is Boston so expensive?  Especially if you're talking dead guy territory.  Our area isn't the ritz, but it's pretty far from *that*.  Man.  I thought I had it bad.  Seriously dude, you need to fucking move.  That's just crazy.  I don't even make enough to pay that kind of rent.  I barely make enough to pay what I owe now!  Actually, there are months when I don't.

Damn that's expensive. The 2 bedroom house I lived in last year was only $650 total - I was paying $325. And it was a nice neighborhood. I couldn't imagine paying that much.

Not fun.  I would move, but this is literally the cheapest place we could find close to school.  A few of my buddies live in the place next to ours and pay $3950 for a 4 bedroom.  These places really aren't that big or nice by any means.  It's a fucking rip out here.

I can't even imagine that.  Like I said, SF Bay is one of the most expensive places to live.  To hear that it's that much worse out there is crazy.  Of course, you have one bedroom over me and you've got a house, not an apartment (huge difference), but still... 2 bedroom houses here rent for like $1400-$1700, so I can't see paying $2200 for a place in a shitty neighborhood.  That's just insane.

Oh, it's an apartment.  The only way we make it work is by having 4 roomates, one using the living room as a bedroom.

I'm apartment hunting now too and so far, i've found some one bedroom apartments that are about $350 and up.  I don't want to hit the $500 mark though.

I used to rent a 3 bedroom house with attic and 3 bathrooms, 2 fireplaces for about $350 a month.. had a beautiful garden.. owning a house.. i don't know, maybe if i ever inherit one! tough luck though..

If you're in a city that has it, be sure to try craigslist for apartments.  I've yet to find a better way to find one.
