Kinda stupid, but still funny. I like when they say Gordan Freeman!

Hell, I think they actually added some to the plot.

I'm beginning to think Painkiller had more of a plot than the actual HL series did. :P

At least PK doesn't actually tease you to death that there might actually some actual storyline and plot to it....

There is nothing to spoil in HL2.  There's no story or twist.

Why haven't you played HL2?  If you don't have it, I can gift it to you.

Yeah, I was being a little sarcastic. :D

My computer probably won't run it, but I definitely appreciate the offer. I would jump all over it if my computer was speedier.

I can also gift it, which brings up how gay the whole lack of a black box thing is.

The irony in their suggestion that you gift it is that nobody wants it.

It's a gift nobody really wants b/c I'm sure most gamers into FPS games already own probably HL2 and HL2: Episode One, anyways....

Yeah, that's what gets me about the Orange Box...

I'm sure the conversation went like this...

Valve Employee #1: "How we going to sell Portal, TF2, and HL2: Ep Two together in one package?"
Valve Employee #2: "Oh, I know -- let's throw into some compilation box. We'll call The Orange Box, since Orange is synonymous w/ Gordon Freeman."
Valve Employee #3: "Let's put Half-Life 2 and Episode One in there, some shit most gamers already own and put all the NEW games in there!"
Valve Employee #1: "Yes! And let's charge $50 for it!"
Valve Employee #3: "We could have a cheaper called The Black Box for gamers who own HL2 and HL2: Ep One at $30, that only need the NEW content -- HL2: Ep Two, Portal, and TF2."
Valve Employee #4: "Fuck The Black Box! Let's force everybody to buy The Orange Box!"
Gabe Newell: "I don't care -- I just want more money, bitches!"

Actually there are infinitely long pages on message boards of most websites regarding the gifting. You'd be surprised how many people are grabbing HL2 because of this.

The gifting idea is probably one of the top reasons I'd go for the Orange Box rather than buy individual bits. I figure I'll gift the basic HL2 package to my brother since he loves Counter-Strike: Source.

Just for clarification, how exactly does the gifting process work? DO you choose which individual parts to gift or install?

The orange box isn't such a bad idea people like myself will pick it up because it's a all in one package - nice an easy even though I paid for HL2 when it first came out. The there'll be those who didn't buy HL2 who'll have all this content.

Truth be told though I want it mostly for Portal but I'm still prepared to buy it all to get it.

I don't think the Orange Box includes CS:S.

Gifting is really easy. Just enter the account of whomever you want to gift to, and that's it.

But to me the Orange Box was a great package, and something that raised my respect for Valve. TF2, Ep2, and Portal are totally worth it.

Really? I thought CS:S was complimentary when you buy/activate HL2. Weird.

STEAM keeps records of what you bought and all, once you activate the game's serial code. STEAM ties your games and their serial codes to your STEAM account -- even if you uninstall them or still have them installed on your PC, that serial code will always stick w/ your STEAM account.

On your "Games" list, you will see games you already own that you've even uninstalled are STILL listed under your account; they are listed under "Not Installed" portion at the bottom of your "Games" List -- y'know, so if you want to actually reinstall a STEAM game for some reason, it'll be absolutely no problem and no hassle to do so. It should be painless to reinstall them, since STEAM keeps your serial code tied w/ your STEAM account!

So, if you go and buy The Orange Box, say you ALREADY have activated to your STEAM account HL2: Original and HL2: Episode One -- whether it's still installed or not, that doesn't matter; STEAM ties ONE serial code to your STEAM account per game. Keep in mind when you buy Orange Box, you have ONE serial code for the entire game package; not for each game. So, here's what happens -- your EXTRA copies of HL2: Original and HL2: Episode One, they will be automatically listed and tagged w/ a "Gift" from STEAM. It'll list under your "Gifts" portion of all your games how many "gifts" you have to give out for each game.

"Gifts" last forever, until you decide to actually give it to someone.

About giving someone a "Gift", I ain't tried it -- but Pug already explained how to do it. :P
