Not much news on it right now, but he was apparently found dead of an OD in his apartment.

Holy crap, luckily I believe The Dark Knight is in post production now so it won't impact the actual film itself.

But man, he was young.

Here's a link to more news and info on this.

I guess he was in the midst of filming "The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus."

Oh my god. WTF?

I can't imagine what Michelle Williams is going through...

And what their daughter, when she gets older and understands all this, will be going through...

He was quite talented as an actor, too....sheesh.....

Well, I'd extend my sympathies, but seriously... when someone dies of a drug overdose all I can think of is how much of a dumbass they are.

I'm sort of with Scott, but not quite as harsh.  It still sucks ass that somebody wound up in that situation.  A lot of times they could well have gotten out of it and just chose not to, but it isn't always as simple as that.

In either case, it's a real shame and a waste of talent.  It seems like his career was finally starting to move away from shit movies into more interesting stuff... damn shame.

that's sad and all, but I didn't even know the guy.  I understand that it's a person of note, and as such it's going to make the news but a few hundred thousand people die every day and I'd be lying if I were to say I care more about this then any of the others.

That's cold.  I care about all such tragedies when I learn about them in this kind of detail.  It is because he is a celebrity that the details circulated everywhere.  It's not that I wouldn't care about the untimely death of some little guy I never met.  The difference is that I never would find out about him.

It's dumb but it's probably hard to understand from an outside perspective. I mean...he made some mistakes and then he got hooked...it's quite sad, really.

He was great in Candy, which is worth noting....
Yeah, he played a drug addict in that one....

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news.

This is so out of left field.

I watched this guy from the beginning of his career until his death.

My first movie of his that I saw was A Knight's Tale and then The Patriot.

I knew he had star quality and while everyone shit all over A Knight's Tale I believed it to be a quirky and touching comedy and one of his best films. His love interest Shannon Sossoman in the film was also unforgettable because of how super hot she was.

This just really really sucks and I'd never in a million years think Heath Ledger would commit suicide I also thought the same about one of my heroes Chris Benoit so I guess sadly its possible though I think at the moment they are still investigating whether it was accidental or not.

R.I.P whatever the case dude.  :(

This is a sad quote from the NYT, in retrospect.
Quote
He is here in London filming the latest episode of the “Batman” franchise, “The Dark Knight.” It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

It might be a little cold, but to be perfectly honest I KNOW some kid under the age of 5 died of AIDS in the last few minutes, and his or her life was taken from him through tragic circumstances he/she had absolutely no control over. I also know that this and far more tragic things happen all the time and no one really cares.  I personally find that much more of a cosmic injustice then rich guy overdoses.  Sure it's sad, but far far worse things happen to people who don't put themselves in that position in the first place.

That's just how I feel.  I don't think everyone should feel the same way and I don't judge people on how they feel about things like this.

Actually, the news is reporting that police state it to be an accidental death.  Looks like he had pneumonia at the time and was having issues sleeping.  So he may have accidentally taken the wrong amount of pills or mixed something up he shouldn't have.  Either way, it's sad.

Yeah, I heard that on the radio on the way home from work, and it seemed like the most likely option.  Although it's weird that he had pneumonia.

Yeah, you're right that was in vain :P My humblest apologies to the Monkey!

It's weird, I feel kinda sad.. Though I didn't particularly like the guy, though I had some respect for him as an actor. Still, 28 is pretty young.

why is it weird to have pneumonia?  I'm suspected to have a type of walking pneumonia.. and i certainly don't look like i'm sick heheh

but anyway.. whatever it is.. i feel bad for HIS family and his ex-fiancee and daughter.. it will always be something they'll have to live with and carry.. the questions and what ifs will always be there for the rest of their lives.

Pneumonia isn't terribly uncommon.  Several people at my work have had it over the last couple years, and also one coworker's fiance who's had it twice since I've been there.

I think everyone rushes to judgement on these celeb deaths.. we should probably wait a few days for more information before condemning or embracing the person. For instance, when Chris Benoit died everyone mourned him and said what a stand up guy he was. Then it turned out he was a giant douche.
Suck it, Pugnate.

From what I saw on the news today it seems like the exact details won't be known for a couple weeks.  The initial autopsy was inconclusive, and all we know is that the police found prescription medication in his home.

Either way, I tend to side with GPW on this one, but I'm also malcontented with celebrity overexposure in general.

Well I just kind of feel bad for his 2-year-old daughter. If it turns out he OD'd, what a shitty thing to do to your daughter.

This surprised me... Expect The Dark Night to get a box office boost as the result of this... It will be sad to watch, he was such a good actor.

Found this:

Quote
NYPD sources tell TMZ that nearly full pill bottles containing the anti-anxiety medications Alprazolam (Xanax), Diazepam (Valium) and Lorazepam (Ativan) were found in the apartment. The sleeping medication Zoplicone (Lunesta) and the sedative Temazepam (Restoril) -- which is used by people with "debilitating insomnia" -- were also found. All of the drugs were prescribed to Ledger.
That's a lot of drugs.  Either he truly had "debilitating insomnia" or he was a majore prescription drug abuser.

Without accidents or foul play, there's only 2 ways a 28-year-old's death makes sense.  Drug abuse is one of them.  (Terminal illness is the other.)

Though consider that Scott's quote was given to "TMZ", which is pretty much the journalistic equivalent of a wet wad of used toilet paper.

The sources went on to say, "welcome to the year 1241, where 28 year olds in the prime of life drop dead.  We suspect sorcery!  Crow fly from moon, bring evil!"  Then the TV came on and they threw it on the ground and cracked it open with some rocks sharpened to a simple yet effective cutting tool.

In other words, horseshit!  Not in this reality.  Not without something like a fucking aneurism.  And if it's something like that, why won't they come out and say it?

That's supposed to be a joke.

Quote
The reason they think that -- it's now appearing that the level of toxicity (from medication) in Ledger's system was low enough that it may not have caused his death. These sources say Heath's heart stopped. It could have been a heart attack but it's not certain, at least not yet.

That's supposed to be real.

How could he die of a heart attack?
