New phone time!
« on: Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 02:32:47 PM »
Think I'm going to go with Verizon. Just wondering which phones you guys would go with. I'm thinking about the MotoRizr actually. I don't want to go over $200 really. Any advice?

Depends on what you're looking for.  If you text a lot, I'd recommend the LG enV.  If you just want a solid phone, I'd recommend the Samsung Flipshot or the LG Venus even.

I've got the new LG Chocolate.  I'm satisfied but not overwhelmingly...

The phone I want is the Nokia N95 8GB.  Unfortunately that's now available in Canada on a plan, so I would have to buy it unlocked without a plan so it would be like $700-$800 just for the phone.

I currently use a Sony Ericsson K790a (k800 variant) and it's a great phone.

upgraded my phone a few weeks back, and very nearly went for the nokia n95. went for the sony ericsson w960i instead. the camera is only 3.2 oppose to 5mp, but it does have touchscreen, 8gb, is a lot slimmer and in my opinion, sexier than the n95.

very happy with it so far. net access is good but not great. full html pages, youtube support and all that stuff. the 3g access could be faster, but when you're in wifi range, you can just use that instead. the walkman functions are a massive step up from any of the other sony ericsson phones i've used, and feel like a "proper" mp3 player - rather than something tacked on (the 8gb on memory helps too). the touchscreen functionality is a nice addition too. for the most part it works very well, with an onscreen keyboard, handwriting support and the ability to draw on any photos that you take.

On my BlackBerry Pearl I have the Opera mini browser, which tries to recreate the web page as you'd see it on a desktop browser, sort of.  The BlackBerry browser will generally display stripped-down pages (I guess many sites use some sort of cellphone browser detection, including OW.net).

I definitely prefer the BlackBerry browser with the stripped-down webpages.  It can be a pain using Opera on the tiny little screen.

the w960i uses opera, so yeah, i know what you mean. there's quite a few options to change the layout, such as fit to screen and text only, along with landscape and portrait display modes, which definitely help - but it ain't perfect. if there's a pda version of any given website, i'll load that up instead. works a lot better with the available screen space.
