I'm going to order DoW Gold as well.  Is the Winter Assault expansion any good?

Yes, and when we play we tend to play with it enabled.

I'm around if you want to try CoH and see how it goes, idol.

And yes, the first DoW expansion is good.  I haven't played the SP *that* much, but the Imperial Guard is really fun to play with, and all the other factions get new units and such.  Plus, once the next expansion hits, you can play with the rest of us!

I'll get decimated, I'm sure.  I tried skirmishes against the CPU.  While I can dominate with whatever the faction is that you play in the SP campaign, I suck ass with anything else.

They're all really different, which is one of the great points about the game, I think.

Well, Que and I tried CoH online. It worked out suprisingly well, so looks like I can join in some games! Woo! Though, we got decimated. 2v2 CPU..easy AI no less. Intense fighting over the center depot on the map. We had it for a while until one of the AI got arty and blew us to hell. But we just couldnt advance on them. The territories were split pretty bad...que and I had a total of 11, and the AIs had 19. They eventually just kept tanks rolling in.

I got disconnected per my usual midnight drop. Oh well. Que might even still be in that game. For me it said HE dropped, so I kept going to 10 minutes before I realised what happened. And I knew it was hopeless.

It was fun, but man how useless we were.  lol  This game has a steep learning curve.  I get how to play, but I still *can't* play very well.  Still, at least we know it works for your modem!  It was a bit laggy, but honestly not that terrible.  Just stalled for a few seconds every now and again.  Wasn't bothersome.

I have a hard time dividing my time between base building/research and deploying squads and fighting. So my base was very weak and I had few upgrades on my troops. I have to learn to stop babysitting my squads all the time and go build things.

Yeah, I haven't struck that balance yet.  I try to ignore my units to do more building stuph, then when I look back... they're all not there anymore.  Because they're dead.  Or they chased something deep into enemy territory and are in the process of dying.

I never set my guys to attack a unit directly. If the enemy flees, they chase. I set them behind cover and set a facing, let them defend an area.

I do that sometimes.  Until I get impatient because they aren't shooting what I want.  But then, of course, to avoid the problems, I end up micromanaging all the battles, so nothing ever gets done back home.  As we discussed.  Yeah.

I suck at this game.  I'm not sure why I like it so much.

I guess that's supposed to say "EA sucks?"

I ordered both this game and Dawn of War Gold Edition last night.  It hasn't shipped yet though, and the shipping option I chose is 7-14 days.

man, Relic is fast becoming one of my favorite devs!

I go into the game with a very defensive mindset. I love playing Axis because I can go down the Support tree and get Flak 88's which are the best defensive platform in the game. I wait for the opponent to attack and use shifting infantry to cut him off from my points. Once I get heavy armor out, i start taking the offensive in conjunction with my infantry.
Suck it, Pugnate.

That little hidden message is the best thing I have ever seen.  Seriously.  If I didn't love Relic before (and I did), I sure as hell do now.

I think I'm too out of it to play tonight.  I just wasted a whole bunch of time working on a recording and then totally mucking it up on accident.  I just wasted like 2 hours.  Fucking mad now.  And my brain feels like fried chicken.

Do you have head explody again?  Lol, that thread title makes me laugh every time I see it.

I got Company of Heroes last night, and played the first two or three missions.  Pretty sweet game.  Gotta love the mortar guys.

I am dreading that mission so much that I havent played the SP in a few days.

I love the audio in this game. When we're playing multiplayer...when you hear distant gunfire, it isnt just some static background noise. It means theres "real" gunfire somewhere on the map. It changes as you move around, too. Just sweet.

I beat that mission on the first try... I am pretty methodical and exacting when it comes to planning defenses. Here is a tip.. build your bunkers and set up your Anti tank guns AWAY from the bridges.. you wont get hit by mortars.

Well, how did you know they were going to pound artillery down on the bridges?

I actually beat the level with my bunkers on the bridge.  I learned about the fact the mortars dont fire on the bridge AFTER while I was reading the Relic forums.

My first and only time i played the level i started by mining all 3 roads and putting up 2 bunkers on 2 bridges and 1 on the 3rd. To compensate I put a MG in one of the buildings near the 3rd. I put an anti tank gun on the outskirt of each bridge. From there it was just a case of moving my Airborne quicky to bridges under heavy attack. The artillery helps if you are in a pinch.

Eventually all 3 bridges fell so I pulled back. I put up a short fight in the town hall but I was able to hold the church until reinforcements came. Using Airborne to kill enemy tanks was key. Make sure they all have bazookas.
Suck it, Pugnate.

I didn't really have much issue with that.  I put up sandbags and barbed wire on the bridges, mg nests behind, and then AT guns.  Held up pretty well until the bombings.  But I had plenty of units to last through the next bit, so it didn't matter too much.  I'm dreading the *next* mission.  It just looks all huge.

Wow, by the sound of it this is just the game I've been waiting for since Ground Control; an intense, squad based with deep combat strategy. Alas, no PC to run it on. :(

Here's hoping it works on my Mac through BootCamp. *grin*

Well, I have a 128MB 9700 Pro, 512MB of RAM (gah, I really should upgrade), and a 1.84ghz Athlon. I have to run pretty much everything on low, I bumped textures up to medium...but its quite playable. So...compare your system to that.

Yeah, my gfx card is only 64 mb. That's really my bottleneck. But, if you can run it decently on low with that setup, I might check it out.

This game is freaking awesome.  Question though... does it take like forever for anyone else to exit the game?  I swear it took about four minutes to get back to my desktop.

In any case, I have the game and wouldn't mind playing online maybe later tonight if anyone is up for it.
