Beer
« on: Thursday, June 26, 2008, 10:16:06 PM »
Hate it? Love it? What are your favorite kinds?

I'm currently drinking Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA and it's quite good. It's not my usual beer - quite expensive and 9% alcohol by volume. But it's tasty and quite enjoyable nonetheless.

Generally I go for an IPA (Sierra Nevada) or barring that something a little less hoppy like Sam Adams Boston Lager. Whenever I want something a little sweeter I pick up some Newcastle.

And, of course, there's always the standby - Budweiser. I don't prefer it, but I get it more often than not just because I can't always afford the good stuff.

I really like Fat Tire, and I will never turn down a Guinness or Murphy's of any variety.  On the Asian side I'm a big fan of Sapporo.  It's funny that Fat Tire is one of my favorites, because everything else I like tends to be heavy and bitter, not sweet.  I love that stuff, though.  Actually, I guess I also enjoy Dos Equis Amber, which is similar.

I used to drink Coors like water when I was younger, just because I used to drink way too much and it was nice and light to chase the tremendous quantities of whiskey I was imbibing.  Rarely have it anymore, but the flavor still takes me back.  It really isn't good beer, but I can't disconnect my past experiences with it from my brain, so I totally enjoy it anyway.

Well back when I did drink it was Miller High Life, its like the best cheap beer ever. Either that or Killians or Amberbock. If it was expensive then it was probably Sierra Nevada, your right, it is quite good. My personal favorite though is Abita's Turbo Dog, fucking fantastic, plus it'll get your drunk. Alright Im leaving now because Im thinking bad thoughts.

Well either you really like piss or you really hate beer.

Que, I love a Guinness as well. And at the moment I can drink them without penalty. But if you *really* want a beer gut, just drink some Guinness every night. That stuff will pack on the poundage fast. But it's damn good.

Indifferent. I don't hate it, I just don't drink it.

I imagine Hoob is more into those drinks with little umbrellas. To be fair, he could just love playing with those umbrellas. I know if beer came with those I'd order drinks more.

One of my favorites is a semi-local brand called Steelhead, Extra Stout, from Mad River, a Northern Californian brewery. It's pretty dark and tasty. I've seen it a couple of times in my area, but we really got ahold of it while doing some camping near the Oregon border.

I'm also slightly ashamed to admit I like Coronas with the lime. I'm half Hispanic, so I blame it on that.

It should be noted that I, like Pyro, really no longer drink.  If I have more than a single beer it's once in a blue moon, and I barely even do that anymore.  I still occasionally have a glass of wine, but next to nothing beyond that.  I've left that part of my life behind and have no desire to go back to it.  I don't really have a problem keeping my drinking to a reasonable level, I just did it so hard for so long that it holds no more appeal for me.

Now if I could just quit smoking.

I only drink on occasion. I was never a big drinker really. But I do get a beer once in a while. I LOVE Yuengling. But it's only available in a few states on the east coast. Ohio isn't one of them. So When my Mom goes on trips or something. I have her pick me up a case. Which is only once every couple years. I also like Leinenkugel, and just regular plain old Budweiser once in a while.

When I do drink it's usually Guinness, Fat Tire, Blue Moon, or Sam Adams.  Sometimes I enjoy a Kirin Ichiban here and there.  I've been drinking some summer brews of Blue Moon and Sam Adams lately though, they are a little more refreshing in the hot weather than the thicker stouts and porters.  When I'm not in the mood for a beer though I do enjoy Ace Pear Cider or Woodchuck Draft Cider.

You used to live in NC, right? We have Yuengling pretty much everywhere here. It's a good beer - pretty cheap but good for what you get. I wouldn't call it a "cheap beer" but the price would indicate it.

I drink Miller Lite or Michelob Light almost exclusively.

If I'm in the mood for a cocktail or harder drink, it's usually a white Russian or just Jameson or Bushmills on the rocks.  I like 7 & 7 too.

The only wine I like is chardonnay.  And the only chardonnay I really like is Kendall-Jackson's.

Now you're talking.  Bushmills is easily my favorite whiskey, with Jameson as a close second.

depends what's on offer!

san miguel, staropramen and honeydew (bit gay sounding for a beer, but it tastes nice!) are my drinks of choice at the moment. not really all that fussy though. can't be doing with beer-snobs - in my opinion, if it's brown, fizzy and gets you pissed, it's normally good enough.

we have a strange sub section of alcoholics here called "real ale drinkers". they all act, look, smell and probably taste, weird. they will only drink local beer, brewed to a specific set of rules, and disguise their alcholism as a "hobby" (in the worst sense of the word) rather than a social activity. in another life they'd of been wino's, but because all beers cost about the same, they can afford to be snobs. i hate them all. they're strange, and they have terrible beards. all of them.
