The Unofficial Oblivion Patches fix a lot of stuff.
I'm trying STALKER again. The patch fixed a lot of the bugs. I'm finding it very difficult to like this game though. I'm not a fan of the theme or many of the visuals. I still find the interface is unappealing too. It's just a very ugly game to me (I'm not talking about texture quality). Maybe that's the look they were going for. Sorry, I had to get the visuals out of the way before I get down to the mechanics.
I liked the game's look and atmosphere. The atmosphere really made the game, if you ask me.
About the Inventory Interface, I thought it was fine, myself.
It wasn't great, but it did serve its purpose just fine.
The gameplay is just not working for me either. Sometimes it's punishing and other times it's too easy. Then there are times when it is completely confusing. The most annoying thing so far is the ridiculous amount of traveling I have to put in.
STALKER: Clear Sky will have a quick travelling system like Oblivion or Silverfall.
Where once you visit the place once, all you'll need to do next time is click on the location map to get there instantly, regardless of where you are on the would map.
I have yet to find a weapon I like. So far all the weapons are crap and I end up having to use the weapon with the most available amount of ammo (since ammo is so scarce too). What I do like is that a headshot is an instant kill; with that in mind seven 9mm rounds in a guy's leg should at least disable him if not kill him.
Ammo is NOT scarce if you kill anything that walks.
B/c I took on this style of playing when playing STALKER, I wound up often having too many weapons and too much ammo often -- so I often had to drop stuff from my Inventory b/c my character would weigh too much and could've move.
I often wound up selling lots of ammo and weapons, too -- resulting in having loads of money, even after buying things.
GREEDY ENDING
Having a ridiculous amount of money when you finish the game results in a bad and hilarious ending, BTW.
I don't really get a feel for any of the factions. The NPC's are just dry, generic folks. The story (whatever there is of one) is just so bland.. It's very hard to care. I'm just finding it very tedious to play this game.
Are you following all of the "Strelok" quests?
Those "Strelok" quests are the best story-based stuff in the game. Especially when you find out who Strelok is, actually. Though, I did like the plot and premise of it a lot; there's not too much depth to the actual "Strelok" story, when compared to games like Deus Ex, The Witcher or Planescape: Torment.
I hope Clear Sky has more storytelling depth, myself.
On a positive note, I'm glad I found a game I don't enjoy just because I don't like it, rather than a game-breaking bug or crappy design (although the design in STALKER is disputable).
I loved STALKER, myself. I wish there more open-ended world shooters w/ non-linear gameplay, myself.
