Bangai-O Spirits
« on: Friday, August 22, 2008, 05:47:44 PM »
The reviews and pictures don't do a very good job of describing what may be one of the best DS games ever made. The game is labeled in the shooter/scrolling genre, but this game is so much more. Its a scroller/shooter/puzzle game and its really fucking hard. However, the game isn't hard in a frustrating way, but in an extremely fun way. My only complaint is that there is slow down when there is a ton of shit on screen, you'd think the DS would be able to handle that.

Wow that looks... insane!  I wish I had a DS.  There are so many games I'd love to try.  But seriously.  How many 30 year olds have a DS?

What are you smoking?  Tons of people in their 30s have a DS.  You can't go far on the subway without seeing somebody using one.  There's a lot of software marketed toward them.

Yeah but don't you live in the Bay Area?  No offense, but that place doesn't represent the rest of America.  :-[

It represents your average large metropolitan area.  And I hardly think Nintendo bases its marketing strategies on one tiny corner of the country.

The real answer is: who cares? If you want one, get one.

Idol makes a much better point.  Seriously, who cares?  Other people have preconceptions of what you should be merely so you can spit in the face of their expectations.  Being responsible and taking care of business first is one thing, caring too much about what other people think is another.

I see a lot of adults with DSs and PSPs here in central Texas.  Two of my supervisors at work have a DS and play with them at work and one of them is easily in her late 30s.

Also, I want this game.

Well besides the adult aspect (I know one person over 30 with a DS, and that guy is a massive douche), Jennie would never go for it.

Why does she have anything to do with it?

She would find it to be a waste of money.  And she would be right considering all the major things we need to upgrade at home.

In any case, it just isn't happening.

30 year olds don't have a DS?  30 is middle life?  It's way too early for you to be having a mid-life crisis, Scott.  :)

The last DS game I got was Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.  I hated the endlessly repeating toxic dungeon, so I didn't get far.  But I think what really stopped me from persevering even so is the tiny little screens.  One thing that does go after 40 is your ability to focus on small things up close.  I need the help of significantly stronger glasses than I normally wear to read.  That, plus I simply don't game on the go these days.  The Zelda game made me realize that I'm just not enjoying the portable anymore.  If someone ever comes up with a DS emulator similar in quality to VBA for the GBA, I'll be back in business.

You can also download custom levels in a very...unconventional way.
