It wasn't a day one purchase for me originally, but the more I look into it the more it grabs me.  I'm gonna throw in my preorder this week.

I'm interested in this too, but Silent Hill Homecoming and Castlevania: Order of Ecclasia have my money first.  I still need to get Disgaea 3 too.  Fucking 4th quarter.

Yeah, I'm interested, but not day one interested.  Right now the only new thing on my radar is (unexpectedly, mind you) Fallout 3.  Still, once LBP has a chance to spread its wings a little I'm definitely going to keep my eye on it and hopefully make a purchase before too long.  We'll see.  SHH is another big one for me as well, though not Disgaea 3 since I still haven't managed to beat the first game, let alone the 2nd.

My old room mate totally sold me on this after he saw the first video.  He talked about it constantly.  Coincidentally, he's an engineer so he loves that kind of shit.

I was really impressed when I first heard about Halo 3's Forge deal.  It's unfortunate that it was so limited, but people persevered and ended up designing some pretty neat stuff.  Hopefully with LBP's system being much more robust, a lot more creative things will happen.

The only downside I see to this game is the inevitable slew of DLC that most likely won't be free.

I've looked at some gameplay video and it certainly looks interesting, but I don't know if I'm going to get it or not.

I was at a Bengals 0-16 celebration party last night at my brother's, and after the game (which didn't mar the celebration) one guy I know who is heavily into PS3 insisted on showing me a couple of LBP videos.  This one in particular impressed me, because it shows how much open-ended creativity is possible.  It seems that it's a game only if you want it to be.  It can also serve other purposes.

I got in on the beta.  I must say that there are already some quality user-generated levels out there now.  The stuff that's being done with this game is insane.  Someone actually made a working calculator in-game.

As some of you may have noticed, LBP has been slightly delayed in some territories. At MM we were as shocked and dismayed by this as anyone - shellshocked and gutted. We can’t wait for you all to get playing and creating!

We learnt yesterday that there is a lyric in one of the licensed tracks which some people may find offensive, and which slipped through the usual screening processes. Obviously MM and Sony together took this very seriously. LBP should be enjoyable by all. So within 12 hours of hearing about this issue involving a lyric (in Somalian, I believe!), we prepared an automatic day 0 patch and had a new disk image ready; however a decision was made within Sony that the right thing to do for quality and support of people with no on-line was to replace existing disks. They assure us that they are doing everything in their power to get things straightened out as fast as possible, and will announce dates soon.

Apologies to everyone excited to play the game and I can assure you that when it arrives, it will be worth the wait! We want everyone to be able to enjoy the game, and this tweak should help - we’re just gutted it couldn’t be sooner. MM continues to work hard to support the game too.  We know that LBP will be something that you can enjoy for a long time to come, when all of this is forgotten and all that remains are thousands of incredible levels and creations to play, create and share.

[EDIT Sony are going to announce new dates and information re discs for each territory soon. We’ll keep you posted! The patch is ready from our side and I imagine it will go live at the same time as the game. More info when we get it. ]

It's tentatively scheduled to start shipping the 27th now.

Apparently one of the songs they licensed contained lyrics taken from the Qur'an.  Apparently it's very offensive to put words from the Qur'an to music.

As much as it sucks, sony did the right thing.

No shit, Japan already had a couple of nukes dropped on them, the last thing they need are suicide bombers running all up in that bitch.

The functional electric calculator is insane though.  I can't believe how much time that must have taken.

The last thing we need is to allow a belligerent, intolerant, xenophobic and genocidal subculture to exist.  Wrong thread, I know, so it's the last I'll say about it here.

They allow regardless - it's a matter of giving them any reason to lash out. Not trying to start anything, just had to say that. My bad. :)

I'm really excited about this game, but I was under the assumption (until reading Beo's post) that it was download only. Is this a full-fledged, $59.99 game?

I'm glad that it's on a disk because that means I'll be able to get it.

You'd be very sad when you got it home and realized you'd bought the wrong system.

I want to be excited about this, but I really need to see more before I can be.  It looks awesome, and seems extremely tightly developed, so we'll see how it goes.  I'm quite sure I'll end up getting it, just not sure it'll be soon.

Anyone looking to get this now should check out their local Wal-Marts and Targets since some places seems to be selling it still despite the recall.  I got my copy at midnight at the Wal-Mart here and I just got done playing for a couple of hours on story mode and its been fun so far.

I just heard the track in question. I'd like to calrify that normally Qur'anic references are normally not offensive in such music styles. The reason this one got a lot of attention is that the vocalist actually recites a verse. I'm sure he meant well but it was somewhat demeaning.

Hehe Ironically, the excerpt, roughly translated "Every soul shall have the taste of Death, everything on Earth shall perish," makes Muslims sound like The Harbingers of Doom or something. The complete verse actually refers to the cycle of life.. Everything dies, life starts anew etc.

I have an Islamic inspired track from Café Del Mar (Island of God by La Rocca) which I think is a beautiful work of art. It has lyrics that are common Islamic references "La Illah Illa Allah" meaning "There is no God but God." Things like that are fine and nobody is offended by it. I think anyone offended by it ought to reconsider life. We have a lot of Islamic chants and songs dating back to the days Islam was budding. Then you have these insane extremists who believe "music" is fundamentally "evil."

By contrast, I came across a title in one of my Euphoria EuroTrance albums called Paradise which uses a part of the Muslim "call to prayer" as a dance mix. Now I found that offensive.

Anyway, what I did play of LBP was pretty cool! It looks beautiful and it's pretty funky! Kinda reminds me of The Neverhood (not the gameplay).

Also I mentioned this on another thread but anyone interested in getting this early, there is no online stuff up yet, since the servers have yet to be started up.  I'm guessing the servers will be up next week on the 27th hopefully when the "fixed" release is scheduled to be out.  The story mode should keep me busy until then though.

I heard it too, if that's the right one, last night.  It's a shame that something this innocuous-sounding (and sort of catchy) can cause enough of a disturbance to recall a game that was already distributed in large quantities.  Honestly, are we that thin-skinned?

Edit:  "Tapha Niang", the song in the spotlight, is from Toumani Diabate's album, Boulevard de l'Independance.  Good listening so far.  I'm partial to African music.

I don't think the issue is so much with the song as the fact that the song is being used in a non-educational video game.

At least that's the impression I'm getting

It is confusing. It's not as simple as when black dudes say "nigga" or when gay dudes say "fag".. I guess I'd lean toward he shoulda known better.

The song itself is not offensive. It carries a good notion, with what little Somali and Swahili I understand, I gathered some of the meaning. It's just the inapprpriate integration of a verse from the holy book that is in question.

I tried to get a copy from a Gamestop employee but he wasn't having it:

"Hey man, so you have any copies of Littlebigplanet?"
"no, the game got recalled"
"come on, I know you have some in the back"
"yeah, but I can't give them to you, I could be fired"
At this point I give him a look expressing nothing short ofan utter lack of care for his job. The conversation died.

I picked up Bioshock for the PS3 instead. I don't know if LBP is really worth it since I have no online capabilities.

It takes a lot of effort to make a game as boring as Spore. It's almost impressive.
