If you thought Guitar Hero was it, well...
There will be a DJ Hero game coming from Activision eventually.

World Tour project director flatly states scratch-ready rhythm game in the works.

In February, then-independent Activision filed an application to trademark DJ Hero. While significant, the application in and of itself was merely a sign of possibility, not a signal of intent, as has been seen with other unacted-upon trademark filings for rhythm games, such as Guitar Villain and Drum Villain.

Today, that possibility became a near certainty. In an interview with gaming blog Joystiq, Guitar Hero World Tour project director Brian Bright revealed that Activision Blizzard is indeed working on a music rhythm game dedicated to the club scene.

"Activision's doing a DJ Hero game, and I can't comment on what we're doing," he casually revealed in response to a question about what's next for Neversoft after World Tour. "But...we're working on the future and next gen. If I wasn't excited about it, I wouldn't be there."

Bright's statement comes as the first official confirmation for the game, though speculation and leaks have already revealed a number of unverified details. In September, alleged tipsters told Kotaku that the game was expected to arrive next summer and will integrate both a turntable-style controller and Guitar Hero guitars. The controller, which sources claimed was on its sixth iteration, reportedly includes a scratch platter, three buttons for sampling, a cross fader, and a sound-effects dial.

As per Kotaku's sources, the game is in development at B-Boy studio FreeStyleGames, which Activision Blizzard bought outright in September. At that time, the publisher said that FreeStyle was at work on localized downloadable content for Guitar Hero as well as a new intellectual property in the rhythm genre.

If there's some sort of say "Song Creation suite" with this DJ Hero game and you could upload tracks, my Gosh -- I wonder how rampant sampling of copyrighted stuff could be when people try to "create" (and mix) new songs. :P

I wonder if with this DJ Hero, if an optional mic will come with it...we all know, DJing and MCing kinda go hand-in-hand.

When I thought of DJ Hero, I thought of Electronica.

DJ Guetta will be working on it.

Activision's turntable-scratching simulator is indeed getting a sequel, according to one soundtrack artist.

DJ Hero

While it didn't exactly light up sales charts the way the Guitar Hero franchise has, DJ Hero either still performed well enough to earn a sequel, or it didn't and Activision is making one anyway to get some use out of all those DJ deck controllers they made. Actual real-life DJ David Guetta was quoted recently as saying he's lined up to work on the sequel, which last we heard will probably launch some time near the end of the year.

"I think it's amazing, this game, and I'm going to work on the No. 2 version," Guetta said while speaking with Kelowna.com (via Destructoid). While Guetta didn't work on the original game proper, he did provide additional downloadable content for the title.

Previously, Activision's Guitar Hero CEO Dan Rosensweig (yes, the franchise is so big it needs its own CEO) commented that "there will be more DJ Hero," but this appears to be the first confirmation that work on the sequel will begin soon.[/b]
