Joystiq -> Bethesda on Skyrim DLC.

Quote
They say you can't have too much of a good thing, but Bethesda certainly put that to the test with its seemingly unending releases of downloadable content for Fallout 3. Project lead Todd Howard said that the developer has learned its lesson, and those who play the studio's next game, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, should expect heartier, less frequent updates.

"Right now I can say that we'd like to do less DLC but bigger ones -- you know, more substantial,"
he told AusGamers. "The Fallout 3 pace that we did was very chaotic. We did a lot of them -- we had two overlapping groups -- and we don't know what we're going to make yet, but we'd like them to be closer to an expansion pack feel."

In short, expect huge horse armor collections this time around, in every size, shape and hue imaginable.

Personally I never saw a problem with Fallout 3's DLC.

Well, ZeniMax took that down fast.
Bummer - b/c it kicks ass.

EDIT:
PC Gamer has it up now.

No way is that worth 150 bucks.

At least this means I won't have to preorder.

It looks beautiful, but you're right, no way that's worth $150. You figure even at $30 for the book and $30 for the figure, that only brings you to $120.

I realized I had a psych barrier to spending more than around $70 on any single game when Turok (N64) originally sold for $80.  When I see some of these CEs and their prices, all I can do is shake my head.  At least they remove all temptation to fill up my shelves with extraneous crap I'll never use.

And I wonder if the "premium map" everyone's touting for preorders is a cloth map, or if it's just a printed map like what came with Oblivion.

The picture there makes it look like... well, not a poster, at least.

Sucks, though. I was hoping to add this to my collection of Elder Scrolls stuff. Now I guess I won't be.

Yeah the completionist in me is tempted, but nah.  Fuck that.  If anything this makes waiting for the inevitable GotY edition more tempting.

Yeah, I feel you. I don't know how they can justify that pricetag. Given that I have too much to play anyway, I might just wait.

That's a bit much for a paltry collectors' edition. At that price that thing better be made out of sterling silver!

30ish minutes of gameplay from Quakecon.

This is a save from an Youtube video that was removed not long after someone uploaded it. The file's huge, like 600mb.

No surprise, given all of the last BethSoft/Zenimax PC games require Steam - i.e. FO: New Vegas, Brink, and Rage.

Those were re-release for FREE download on BethSoft's site w/ a workaround so it works in DOSBOX.

No love for this game?!  It's coming out soo sooooon.

I played through Morrowind a few days ago.  Now working through Oblivion as well.  This will get me nicely set up to play Skyrim.  Unfortunately, I'm certain I won't have time to play it until after Christmas.  Oh well.
Suck it, Pugnate.

I'm definitely looking forward to Skyrim, but uncertain of when I'll buy it...

I think Skyrim is the only RPG this year to really have a shot at even dethroning The Witcher 2.

PC version of Skyrim requires Steam, so given that alone, I will NOT spend full-price on it.
If I can get a good deal on it, we'll see - i.e. I will keep my eyes on Amazon DL service, GreenManGaming, and other digital services that been offering up great deals on the regular.
I'm also not very happy w/ how a lot of major Triple-A PC launches have turned out upon release - releasing Alpha or Beta in a box; see FO:NV PC, Dead Island PC and Rage PC.
And w/ many games winding up around 1/2 price in a few weeks to a month or 2, maybe I'll just wait for that.
Plus, then there'll be a few patches behind the game.

Plus, I'll bet Skyrim will have lots of DLC - see Oblivion and Fallout 3.

We'll see, we'll see...

Totally fair.  I think I'll wait until it is like $40 or so.  By then, it should be patched up to a normal quality. ;)

Edit: I'm not worried about the reviews, though.  I can't imagine it won't be well-received.
