I can't believe Bioshock is that cheap. Lots of other good deals there as well. I may end up getting Psychonauts, just because I never finished it.

I ordered Two Thrones.
I can't find it anywhere in store.
Plus, it was the only of the modern PoP's I didn't have.

Wow, that's an awesome sale.  I'm interested in the full PoP collection, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, World of Goo, and Alien Shooter: Vengeance.  I'd definitely spring on Ultimate DOOM if I didn't already have the whole collection.

Ultimate Doom is actually just Doom 1: Complete Edition -- that's Doom + Doom: Flesh expansion.

The Complete Doom Pack is actually $35.99 (Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Doom 2: Master Levels, Final Doom, Doom 3, Doom 3: ROE)

I think the Id Super Pack's a better buy, myself -- since that's everything Id has just about done and actually published -- which includes Complete Doom. Plus, that one gives way more content and is cheaper currently!

I own most of Id's stuff already, though...

About STALKER: Clear Sky, if you liked STALKER: Shadow, it's basically the same game with a few new additions -- more factions to join,  Factions Wars, and upgradable equipment. Feels like a remix of the Shadow, basically -- since a lot of the areas from Shadow are here again, but some things in those old areas might be a little different. There are very few new areas in here. More so than anything, it feel like an expansion more so than a new game. Still, regardless, I did like what I played. Oh, and I should add this -- the already tough AI from Shadow is even more brutal now this time around in Clear Sky. The Tages 5 Install Limit on the Steam Edition of Clear Sky must be annoying, though...

Don't let Alien Shooter: Vengeance's graphics put you off. It's basically a 2D version of Shadowgrounds. Though, in AS: Vengeance, you upgrade more than weapons -- you can upgrade your own character's base stats, as well. In Shadowgrounds, you don't upgrade your character's base stats.

Where in my post did I express confusion over this fact?  I'm completely aware of all of this.

I have DOOM Collector's Edition, which is Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II, and Final DOOM.  The reason I pointed out that I'd spring for it is because it's $0.99: if you don't own the original game or have lost it there is almost no reason not to buy it.

Though I guess one thing to consider is that you might not be able to use some of the third party engines that have been created for DOOM on the Steam version.

Sure you can.  All you need are the WADs, which I'm sure are present and accounted for in traditional form in the Steam versions.  You copy those over to most of the source port engines; the engines themselves don't copy over the original game.  You're right: for a buck, there's no reason not to if for some reason you don't have a copy.

That list is so overwhelming, I'm scared of what will happen to my wallet if I reinstall Steam and think about buying something.

I think I might actually make a new Steam account before buying anything. I think all that's on my old one is Half-Life. I made my Steam account way back when it used your email address as your login, and now I'm stuck with some ancient email address as my login, and I always forget which address it is since it's one I no longer use.

I can confirm what Que said about running old WADS in Doomsday.
I've tried my Hexen-Heretic Steam Collection in Doomsday.
And yes, like Que says, it works.

Damnit! I noticed barney sounded weird, but I thought it was a bad file or something.

So you guys can see UT3 in there? I tried searching for "unreal" but I only get U2: The Awakening, Unreal Gold, and UT: GOTYE. I tried clicking on Epic Games, Inc from the front page of the store and it shows the same. From there, I can click on "news posts" on the right and it talk about their games being on steam, blha blah blah, and "Unreal Tournament 3" is a link. (http://store.steampowered.com/app/13210/) When I click it, it takes me back to the store's front page. Going to that link in my browser does the same thing.

It appears they ran out of UT3 CD keys because of the sale. They will get more, but probably not until the sale is over.

That's b/c UT3 forces you to make a special UT3 Account and tie that "Key" to your UT3 account.

Well, it still doesn't really make that much sense.  Don't they just have some kind of crypto algorithm that produces keys that they can send out?   It's not like they have to go out and mine them or anything.

Are there a lot more people playing now?  It'd almost be worth reinstalling if there were actual matches going on now.

Yeah, I don't get it.  I mean wasn't UT3 a massive disappointment sales-wise on the PC?  I highly doubt it went from selling badly to rivaling Starcraft because of this sale.  How could they run out/low on CD keys?

They probably didn't issue Steam a whole lot of keys, expecting tame sales. Then this christmas deal kicked in and people went nuts. Perhaps not for UT3 itself, but a bunch of people bought the Unreal pack that contained UT3. So they burned through the keys they were given. Now they have to go to Epic or whoever issues keys and get another allotment.

Obviously the smart thing to do would be to allow Steam to generate the keys itself. But wheres the fun in that?

I was playing yesterday and a good handful noobs were coming in the server I was in and playing, saying this was their first time playing UT3 and that they bought it over Steam. Many were coming and going, testing it out -- and from what I saw on the server, many were digging it.

This sale over Steam's the best thing to happen to UT3 -- especially given its once poor sales.

I'm also sure if it's cheap at stores at like $10 or so, I'm sure people might say "What the heck? Why not?"

Many there was method in Epic's madness to put it over Steam. And a method to their madness for planning a UT3 Expansion.

It makes me sick that simply releasing shit on Steam means it gets attention, but at least the game's getting a little recognition.  It wasn't as bad as people made it out to be.  It's a quality game.  Can't touch Quake Live, of course, but that's coming from a Quake junkie.

But now that there are noobs playing this, maybe it's the time to jump in.  Now there might be someone I can actually kill.

It's also on Impulse, actually -- but, it's $30 on there.

It's nice it got attention and all, even if it came from Steam's sale of the game. Hmmmm...maybe that might prompt Epic to bring GoW2 PC to Steam or maybe even the upcoming Windows Live Marketplace?

I ain't tried QL.

But, I do think UT3 is a pretty good MP-shooter. You can't really go wrong with it.

Yeah, for my Scores, I actually usually somewhere in the middle on a server yesterday, instead of being on the very bottom. :P

I get what you're saying, but it's kind of important to note that it's been available on STEAM either since release or right after.   I think it's the $9.99 price point that really gets people...that's what I bought it at.  Anyways, let me know how it goes...I might reinstall.

Many people who bought X3: Terran Conflict and STALKER: Clear Sky recently -- especially through STEAM during its crazy sale -- had trouble getting their games activated b/c Tages servers were down the past few days.

Quote

Clear Sky and Terran Conflict DRM Glitch

[January 03, 2009, 11:48 am ET] - Share - Viewing Comments
Purchasers of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and X3: Terran Conflict both experienced problems over the holidays activating their new games on the TAGES digital rights management servers, which were apparently overloaded with demand, in part because of the big Steam holiday sale. A thread called cd key activation help on the Steam Users' Forums, another thread there called Tagen DRM Servers Down, as well as a post on the EGOSOFT Website all discuss the situation, which was apparently resolved as of this morning, according to a post on Shacknews. This has lead to renewed outcry for the removal of third-party DRM from titles sold on Steam, something even EA was willing to do, since Steam has its own copy protection scheme.
