Bully

Anyone thinking of picking it up? Any interest? I'd like to see a gamespot review or something, but the game seems to be getting next to no attention.

MyD posted an IGN link on the "Who the hell is this judge?" topic, it got an 8.9 from them.  I personally am not that interested in it, if I happen to run across a demo or something I'll give it a shot though.

I'm quite interested.  I think it's a unique and cool concept.  I haven't read a review yet, and unfortunately I'm pretty low on cash.  But I would like to get it.

I have pretty much no interest in it at all.  I agree with Que that the concept is both unique and cool, but personally I'm pretty sick of GTA and that will probably carry over to this.

I'm absolutely sick of GTA, but this seems different enough to be interesting.  I've read up on it fairly extensively, and even if the action is roughly similar, it looks like the game itself is going to be pretty different.

That's the cool thing about GTA. The games are so massive, that by the time you finish one you are sick of the genre. And when you are ready to go again, there is a new GTA out waiting for you.

That's why it makes zero sense why there are so many GTA clones out there. Who plays them? Why not play GTA?

because you could program a MysterD-chatbot with about 3 lines of code.

but yeah, bully looks interesting. a couple of chains here have said they're not going to stock it already, but meh - their loss. i'm sure nobody gives a shit.

Already beat it. not sure if I'm ready to play through it again just yet. But the game is outstanding. Probably in one of my top ten at this point.

Anyway, Gerstmann is apparently digging it. I just read his hands-on thing. Sounds good. I may end up getting it.

Yeah, I've been really interested in this game, but I only had enough money for this or SC:DA, so I picked that up instead. If I free up some cash, I might have to check this out.

I ended up picking it up today. I just couldn't help it. It sounds like a lot of fun, and it's getting a lot of good reviews and such. So I nabbed it.

On a side note. No! I don't want a fucking guide! Jeez. Gamestop people are so damn annoying. I know they are told to ask. But are they told to ask repeatedly? The guy asked me three times, and I said no three times. But they just push and push to the point I just want to strangle the guy. I don't want a guide, I don't need a guide, STFU!.

I'm sure GameFaqs will have numerous guides for Bully, once it's been around for a lil' bit a time -- especially since it's Rockstar game and their games are quite popular.

So, I've played it for a good 4 hours. And it's great. I didn't like it as much at first. The game starts a bit slow. It seems really linear, and small and it seems like there isn't much to it. It like that for the majority of the entire first chapter. Which is just one big long tutorial really. But after you get past that the game gets soooo much better. So many more possibilities open up. There is an entire town to explore and run around in, more items at your disposal and more option for pranks and what not. Like egging someones house, TP'ing trees, or dilivering papers for some extra money. Most of the missions thus far have been a lot of fun. It's like GTA in this area. You kind of network with a bunch of people throughout the game, and these people give you missions and tasks. The story is kind of interesting so far. But it's also starting kind of slow. Another thing the first chapter does is just set up characters. The game is getting more and more interesting as I move along. The music in the game is awesome I'm really digging it. The voice acting is great too. no big names or anything like GTA has, but everyone sounds great, and the animation is synced up perfectly.

Totally worth checking out.

Another game that starts off slow like that is SW: KOTOR. Once you get off the first land, it's great.

I really am hoping for a PC port of Bully. And if they do plan one, they better have a separate multiplayer for playing DODGEBALL!!!! I'll be head-hunting for Que and Xessive, if that's the case! :P

They won't, so I ain't worried.

Anyway, I picked it up today.  Got the CE, even, which is pretty cool, and not all that pricey considering.  So I'm really looking forward to giving it a shot.  I fucked my arm up at work today, so this weekend will be a good time to settle down with it.  But... damn it!  I was supposed to finally finish Okami...

I'm one of the few guys, so I lift pretty much anything that has to be lifted around the office, which often includes fairly heavy things.  It was my own dumb fault though.  I think I blew it when a full box I was carrying slipped a bit and I jolted to secure my grip.  Think I twisted funny.

Anyway... Bully is awesome.  Seriously, this game is truly great.  It does so many little things right.  The little details are all the kind of thing that'll make you smile, there's a ton of variety in the kinds of things they have you doing, and the concept is unique and quite nostalgic for anyone that went to an oppressive school (and really, anybody that went to school at all will appreciate it).  I wasn't expecting to love it nearly as much as I do.  It's got that GTA feel to it, but the theme is so different and the gameplay is so much more varied that it doesn't *really* feel like GTA at all other than on a surface level.  The school and town are really big and there's tons of little side missions and things to do, a lot of which take the form of minigames.  Pretty much all of them work well, and there's a great sense of accomplishment when you manage to earn a bunch of money or play a particularly mischevious prank.

I was initially a bit surprised with how heavy handed the game was, but the mood got a bit lighter as things went on, and you get to see that Jimmy isn't such a bad kid after all.  Despite a fairly mean exterior at times the game is really pretty innocent, and thus far its been more light-hearted than dark.

So yeah, I highly recommend it, especially to anyone that enjoyed some of the general concepts behind GTA but not so much the theme (which is me).  It's got more structure to your daily activities, feels a lot tighter overall, and that does make it seem somewhat less free, but the tradeoff is worth it in the end and you still get plenty of freedom to do what you'd like to do.  Easily worth the $50, and I'm really glad I got the CE now.

EDIT - Oh, and the music is just awesome.  I'm so glad they did an original soundtrack instead of licensed shit.  This is one I'm definitely going to be buying at some point.

Res isn't really going to make that big of a difference with this kind of game.  The graphics will still look dated.  None of the GTA games really looked that much better just because of a slightly sharper look.  All that does is further point out the low polys.
