The first one had a fun multiplayer mode, if the horrendously slow aiming was overlooked.  The single player was all over the place.  I couldn't make heads or tails of the story that was going on.

Watching G4TV, showing some of this game off.

Holy crap -- there's this HUGE boss you fight, that you can actually enter its mouth. Then, you can fight it inside and battle enemies that grow from his insides.

You can fight this boss from the outside as well, too.

Oh, and this is one of the SMALLER bosses in the game, too.

 ???

EDIT:
Here's the video

In a collaboration with Capcom, American game developer Epic is lending Gears of War 's main characters Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago to upcoming action title Lost Planet 2 .

The appearance of both Gears characters in Lost Planet 2 was revealed in a trailer shown today at Xbox Japan's Capcom event.

It is believed that the characters will be available as exclusive downloadable characters for the Xbox 360 and will not be appearing in the game's story mode. This is still unconfirmed, however.

LINK

I guess it makes sense, seeing as Lost Planet is sort of a Japanese clone of GoW.

Lost Planet 2 has some content cut from the game.
The cut content might wind up as DLC.

Cut Lost Planet 2 Content Could Return as DLC
Disc space difficulties led to "significant" cuts.
By Steve Watts, 02/18/2010

Lost Planet 2

Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi recently said the developers had to make some difficult cuts to the game, but the content may find its way back to players through the magic of downloadable content. A Japanese Livedoor interview (via Kotaku) reveals that the cuts came from a lack of disc space on the Xbox 360 version. "This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant," he said, "and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space." It sounds as if these cuts were made at the planning level, so even though the PS3's Blu-ray allows for more space, we'll see parity between the two versions. He did point out that Capcom "could be able to add that content at a later date as downloadable content."

We're seeing this exercised as a more common practice. Ubisoft made a similar move with two cut sequences from Assassin's Creed 2, one of which is due out as DLC today. Though some fans complained, the content has been generally accepted due to positive reception of the main game and relatively low prices for the downloadable content. We'll have to see if Capcom will take notes from Ubisoft's method, or find some other way to appease fans.

You would think a sweet spot for DLC might be a week or two after release, where the players that really are into the game and finish it pretty quickly would be interested in more right away.

Sorry, wasn't paying attention.

I am pretty shocked that in this day and age, the first game has warranted a sequel. Didn't play it, but I didn't realize it sold enough.

I tried the demo  and didn't think it was all that great. Not bad, just mediocre. Apparently some people absolutely loved it though. To me it felt like a very easternized Gears of War clone: weapons had bright rectangular borders and spin on the ground, bright orange "weak spots" on enemies, and a sort of sloppy feeling control setup (crosshair not locked to the center of the screen).

I do have Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition PC.
I have yet to install it.
