I think my 7900 GTX is nearing the end of its life. A couple months ago, when I still played WoW, it would freeze once or twice for 2 minutes before resuming gameplay. At the time, I didn't think much about it.
I recently decided to try out Sims 3 and the graphics are flickering, along with massive texture and model tearing (I don't have a screenshot but I found one of the same problem from google)
I took a can of compressed air and sprayed my mobo, CPU, and video card. I even took the video card out of its slot and sprayed it as well. No dice -- after about 15-20 minutes of gameplay, graphics issues persist.
I thought it was maybe Sims 3 or just drivers, so I updated them and tried Hitman and then my computer's video just died -- monitor went to sleep and stuff.
Based on these symptoms, I think it's because the card is overheating, but even after spraying it with compressed air and stuff, it's still overheating so I think it's time to replace the card.
When I do, do I need to reformat my machine? If so, I might need to buy an external hard drive to back up my data that I've accumulated.
Also, got any recommendation for a good video card while staying within the 200-250 budget? I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore so I don't want to spend that much money, especially when the rest of my computer is 3+ years old and would probably bottleneck the card.
