Google wave
« on: Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 07:11:18 PM »
heard about this when I/O was going on, but didn't bother checking it out until today. there's a video on the following page, which is well worth checking out if you're interested on the future of the interwebs...

http://wave.google.com/

edit - from the same team who made google maps, if anyone needed some pedigree to back this up.

Yeah, I watched the video a few days ago. It looks pretty cool, quite innovative.

ahaha... that dude in the video looks like part of an SNL parody or something. He almost looks like he got up that morning and said, "Hmmmmm.... now how can I look like a stereotypical engineer grad?"

"Thick glasses? Check."

"Tucked in checkered shirt? Check."

"Oily hair? Check."

"Comb over? Check."

I watched about 20 mins or so. Looks pretty neat. Can't say that I was blown away by any of it that I saw, but I'd definitely give it a go if I had an account.

True, it wasn't mind-blowing but it has a lot of great little things that I know I would take for granted if I used it regularly. It enhances fundamental things in common internet activity, as they described with the e-mail example in the video.

I still don't fully get what it is.  From what I can tell, it's a sort of email-whiteboard-wiki all in one.  Something I can't really see much use for unless you're involved in a lot of group collaboration work. Is that pretty much it?

yeah, that's basically it. i've sent out some invites, but apparently it takes a little while for google to action them at the moment. it looks cool and it's a very nice idea, but it's kind of difficult to make much use of it considering i'm the only person i know who has access.

We should start some kind of a "Pug Smells" campaign and just see where it takes us.

That is so racist.

Hmm.  Tell that to a dog raised in a white neighborhood when a black guy walks by.

No no no, we have to train them to do that....it's not natural.  Don't belittle my life's work like that.

Yeah I dunno why I said I would give it a go earlier in the thread. It basically seems like an integration tool for people that blog. And I don't blog.

Still, neat technology.

I still want to give it a shot just to see. I mean the reason email is so successful is because of its simplicity.

Its like all these crazy multitouch input devices theyre coming up with. People like the mouse because its simple, not because its the most creative or innovative.
