Well, my sister walked in while I was playing and recognized the game. She had no idea what it was when I had brought the thing home. She recognized it on screen because it was one of the games I had gotten her when I had bought her a PS2 so many years ago.

She looked at it and said, "Oh, I like this game. This monster was so easy, you just have to tap really fast. I almost finished this game..."

I think that probably sparked something (note: embarrassment), because I finished it in a single try after that.

And yea the GoW3 demo looks spectacular.

Good to know you got the demo working.  It was pretty awesome.

I didn't find God of War to be terribly difficult in combat -- the spike room was a pain to time correctly though.

Games like Crysis, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, Company of Heroes etc., I play on the hardest level typically... but when it comes to console games, I am a real pussy. While God of War has been fun, I have found the balancing on the beams to be a bit tough, and the boss battles a touch hard. I'll adapt. :P

That's pretty cool.

One thing I hope for in God of War III is more longevity with the game.  My biggest gripe about GoW and GoWII is the length and amount of content in the game.  What's there is phenomenal and I think it's fine that I paid $40 for the collection, but with God of War III coming with a price tag of $69.99, there had better be something to extend the experience beyond the campaign.  A challenge mode with like 7-10 challenges really doesn't cut it, especially when you can finish that in like an additional hour or two.  Otherwise I'm just likely to wait for it to hit $30 before buying it... kind of like what I did with the first Uncharted.

Hard to argue with your logic there. Something like a multiplayer arena system ala Jedi Outcast would be interesting, though I guess not very practical with the way the game's combat is designed.

But there should be something to justify a $70 price tag. That is quite insane.

Some games are $70 in Canada, some are $60, it depends and it's kind of random.  God of War III is listed as $70 on Canadian retailers.

I still have the original God of War in shrinkwrap.  Now just to find a working PS2.  Jennie and I both have one and they are both victims of the disc read error problem.  Yeah, I know the slims are only $100 now, but that seems like a lot to me when we've already given Sony something like $600 for the other two.

I wonder how many other gems I missed on the PS2.

I got Mad Men season 1 on Blu Ray for Christmas (a day after my wife opened the season 1 I bought her), so I think I'm about to return it to grab this.

I've owned both since the day they came out, but I certainly enjoyed them both enough to purchase them twice.

hhah I am not even a massive fan and I want it.

But I have been burned by a lot of CEs lately. The Batman CE was absolute shit and was made of cheap Chinese plastic which you can find at the dollar store.

I wonder if that is actually as good as it looks, or will be a rip off.

I have more faith in this simply because it's an established franchise and it's an exclusive for the platform.

How was the quality of "The Witcher" package?

I think I will possibly go for this, though I am not sure with Masterpiece Grimlock's USA version on the horizon.

I also wonder how big that thing is.

Witcher package was very good.  It wasn't ridiculously fancy, but all the material was of good quality.

I'm debating still.  I mean I can preorder the ultimate edition at Amazon for 89.99, which is 10 off MSRP...which means I'm only paying 30 extra for the extras...but then at the same time, most of the included content is digital.  I'd be more inclined to purchase it if the soundtracks and EP were actually on CD's and not download codes.  So really the only physical items you get are the art book (probably the typical art book) and the box.  Granted the box is badass, but I have no illusions about it being of very high quality, despite the "high-end" qualifier in the advertisement.

Plus, I wonder how I'm going to feel about owning all this shit in 20 years.

So the trilogy soundtrack and the 'heavy metal album' advertised are download only? That's two marks against buying it.

heheh....

Similar thoughts cross my mind about all the junk I buy, though glancing at the Bizzard CEs I have, and the Star Wars CE I have -- I am pretty glad I got them. The boxes look really good on top of my shelf. The Batman one doesn't look bad either, but even the box is cheap cardboard -- ridiculous considering the arm and leg it cost me to import it.

The only thing that keeps me interested in that GoW3 Ultimate Ed. is the size itself.

While my wooden Dragon Age CE was really really nice, the box is actually only a bit bigger than the size of a typical modern day PC game box... which is just too small.

Yea that's what I meant. I'd rather have quality over quantity.

You know, Collection is a hell of a deal for 40 bucks.  These games are still very relevant.  I'm having just as much fun with the original now as I did when I first played it.

Slowly made my way to the last fight in the first game.  Ares is still a pain in the ass.  And Pug, you might want to consider changing the thread title since ultimately Kratos did not screw you over.

These games hold up so damn well.  I wish they could have redone the cutscenes and upped their quality because that's definitely the bottleneck now.

So worth 40 bucks...and this coming from someone that owns the ps2 versions.

And I preordered the Ultimate Edition of 3.  Who's a consumer whore?  THIS GUY!

I want to join you on that bandwagon, but I have too many games to play.  I'd love to go through these games again, though.  For all the little things about them that aren't so great, they do so much right and are so colossal and epic-feeling in ways games often miss.  The 2nd one remains one of my favorites for some really great visuals and for one of the best boss fights in action gaming.

Beat Ares and started 2.  Man I thought 1 looked good in this reissue but I believe that God of War 2 looks better than a lot of actual PS3 games.

Which boss fight are you referring to?  The Colossus?  Because that one's definitely BA

Heh, no, it's one of the fights at the very end of the game.  It isn't necessarily so impressive to look at, it was just... just really fun.  It was unique and cool.

Hmmm... I am not sure if the collection is worth the buy if you already own the PS2 versions. Sure they upped the resolution, but that seems to be about it. Then again I haven't even started the second yet, and haven't played too much of the first, as I am chugging through Mass Effect. What I did play was quite quite awesome... but I never experienced the originals beyond watching my cousins/siblings for a bit.

Yeah, I mean nothing has been changed with the games.  They just took some beautiful games and made them prettier.  To me it was worth the price of admission, and it gave me a great excuse to play through them again.

I took advantage of being snowed in and finished GOW2 today.  I think they toned down the QTE at the end.  Either that or I got extremely lucky on the first try.

Looking at Amazon the release date for 3 has been moved up from March 31 to March 16.  I cannot wait.

So it was a national holiday today, and I put in about 5 hours into the first God of War game.

The game is so awesome. It is easily one of the best action games I've played, with some amazing set-pieces, and great depth in its action. I think the worst part of God of War 1 is its opening hour. Those quick time events suck, and the opening portion isn't a fair first bite of the awesomeness to follow.

Also, quite a bit of the game can be really frustrating. As I said, the quick time events aren't fun, while I thought they were done so well in Heavy Rain.

The other thing I really take issue with is the analog stick mashing. That, to me, is just not on, and quite stupid. You really have to work the analog stick, when you get turned to stone by those Medusa like monsters.

These game controllers aren't cheap, and sometimes God of War really has you rough them up... to the point where I was fearing for my controller.
I don't mind having such sequences, but they have to be within reason.

Like I said earlier, I have a lot of trouble with the button mashing as well, but that's probably because I am a pussy.

Anyway, the game really does look quite decent, and this collection is definitely worth a buy... At this higher resolution, I'd say it looks close to WoW.

The scale of some of the creatures and gods in this game is just unparalleled. What is amazing is that they aren't mere parts of the background, but actually part of the interactive 3D environment.

Overall, the game is really amazing. If you can get past the visuals (which are goodish, but obviously not at current gen. standards), you will find an action game that probably stands above action games of its kind even today.

Just finished the first game. There were parts that I definitely found excruciatingly hard, but yea the game was INCREDIBLY AWESOME.

It is an action game that just holds up so well, and has a fantastic endgame.

I was going to sell the collection after finishing it for something newer, but I am not so sure now. This is something I want in my library.

K-Man is right, the resolution upgrade makes a big difference -- you can tell from the unmastered cutscenes.

The only part of the main campaign in God of War that I had trouble with was the spike puzzle room.  The timing of that was a pain.  Combat wise I didn't have many issues with it.  The challenge mode was tough though and I never finished it up.

Didn't have a problem with the combat. It was the platforming. I just can't do that stuff.

By the way, I agree with K-Man to a degree: GoW2 remastered looks damn good.

So for the first three hours I was pretty disappointed with how much easier the combat in GoW2 felt, but damn they ramped it back up.

The game is just fucking incredible. I just had the battle with the barb. and got the hammer. Great battle and great game.

FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK.

My PS3 gaming suffers because of God of War 2. I have GoW3, MGS4, LBP, Uncharted 1 & 2, Killzone 2, and Demon Souls all sitting untouched because of this shit.

I think GoW 1 was superior to GoW2. It was just a better paced game. GoW2 feels overly long. I am three fourths through, and I wish it was over already. It isn't bad, but it feels stale. The new god powers are mostly rehashes of powers from GoW1.

And the some of the puzzle solving in act 2 is pretty stupid. There is no logic to it at all. It is ridiculous video game logic and makes no sense. Some elements just seem to exist to form some essential part of the puzzle, and don't make any sense otherwise.

So much of this game just reminds me of why I hated console gaming. I think with the migration of so many prominent PC game developers, the overall standards have been raised this generation, because God of War 2 really feels like a relic at times.

I am sure part of the problem is that I am just not used to games like this.
