Could be true.

Sony already had a PS2 emulator of sorts on certain model PS3s to do backwards compatibility. They could have worked on it some more and will make it available to all. Though I imagine they will sell PS2 games with their own custom version of the emu instead of letting people play the discs they already have. I just get that feeling.

The Dreamcast thing would be pretty awesome.

Oh crap, I just assumed it would allow you to use old Dreamcast discs!! I totally forgot about (or perhaps wishfully ignored) the PSN listing

Either way, it all seems like the first tears of desperation from Sony.

While I would prefer running my PS2 games on the PS3 and possibly upscaling them, I really don't mind just hooking up my old PS2. In fact that's what I'm doing now! I'm playing MGS3 Snake Eater since I never got around to it, oh so long ago. I'm also trying to catch up on FFXII. The PS2 really needs a classic SD TV though, everything looks so crisp and clean on it.. On my LCD all the flaws are so brazen, even with NR (Noise Reduction) and stuff. It's just not the same.

Apparently some games on the PS2 have HD modes when you use a HD connector instead of the basic A/V. In God of War 2 it's a cheat option to activate HD mode.
