It wouldn't have been so bad if they had some sections like that before you reach that point, but you never really get a chance to practice something like that until that last climb. So instead you get to die over and over retrying the same part.

Thats also the point when I realized the PoP08 "Elika save" is better than the limited time rewind. In that whole section there are very few checkpoints and even fewer jars to smash to refill your rewind meter. So you run out of rewinds and then the game sets you back to the bottom of the tower to try again. Yeah, thanks. Thats pretty useless.

All great points, Idol - agreed. I thought people over-bitched about Elika saves from POP 2008, as well - it's a much better system than the "Rewind" mechanic.

I lowered difficulty on that "Final Climb" level - I just couldn't do it, otherwise. I was frustrated as Hell w/ that level. There were checkpoint saves, when I did that "Final Climb" - but not as much as I would've liked. Was there no checkpoint saves on Normal until you finished your way to the top? :o

I couldn't even get the first water walls-to-water pole timing right very much - 1 out of probably 100 tries, if that.

I'm a bit of a save-whore when it comes to trial-and-error games. Elika Save, to me, was like quicksave-quickload without me having to push any buttons: convenient. I never really understood the complaints people were bitching about.

So, I found this in my Steam list (I guess I bought it in a sale?)  and decided to start playing it since I enjoyed all the other games.  UBIsoft...what the fuck is up with your Uplay PC DRM?  It's shit and makes me not want to keep playing.

It's a special kind of retarded, ain't it?

Fortunately they have amended it and now it only needs to be online the first time then after that you can go into "offline mode." Bear in mind, to get that feature you need to let your Ubisoft Launcher update itself.

The patching failed when I first launched it, and now I have to fully re-install to go through the update process again.  Seriously?  Worse than GFWL in every way .... and that's bad.  The only cool thing is that it seems like the uPlay "achievements" are linked to actual game bonuses.

I came back to this game and went to post here when I saw my last two comments.  Hilarious.

See, I quickly got distracted after that and moved onto something else after the first fifteen minutes of the game.  I tried to go back about four months ago and the DRM is just mysteriously broken for some people under Windows 10.  I can't remember what the exact issue is but no one knew the solution when I looked - it just wouldn't let me log in to my Ubi Account and play or even link it to a new one.  OR something.  Whatever, in either case it wasn't worth it.

So, then Sony offers the game as a free monthly game with Plus.  I downloaded it to my PS3 and put a couple of hours into it today.  I won't say it's a terrible game but I've decided I won't be playing it through.

It seems that right from the intro it's just a less interesting and polished Sands of Time.  The movement doesn't feel quite as good for some reason, the combat is even worse - which is astonishing, and the graphics are just boring.  There may be more horsepower in the hardware and the models may have more polygons, etc but the art direction really suffers.   The SoT series had some great details, like the enemies disintegrating, the Prince's costume, etc etc and this really doesn't have anything at all interesting.   It's like Ubi burnt out all their talent with the stellar art direction in PoP 2008 and just let an intern do this one.

I hear it gets better with additional powers, but after two hours the combat was so bad and the platforming so uninspiring I don't feel like going even a minute further. It's really a shame.

I completely dropped this series after the first game, really. Sands of Time, I mean. I couldn't play the 2nd one because the PC port was so horribly fucked up, and even though I heard the 3rd game made up for the terrible direction of the 2nd, I never bothered. I did play 2008 but didn't get that far. Game seemed really cool and I wouldn't mind going back to it if I ever found the time, though.

But yeah, this sounds like the general Ubisoft MO. I really don't like that company.
