I just bought a PS3 slim.
« on: Tuesday, November 03, 2009, 08:21:24 AM »
But what to play? :P

I was initially going for the fat version, which was on sale for about $60 less, but then I had one look at the slim and couldn't resist. It looks very sleek, and my sister calls it, a lipsucktioned version. The matte finish is also very cool, and the way you insert CDs is very Star Treky.

I haven't played anything yet, but I am very happy with my purchase.

The only game I bought so far is Motor Storm, but I am already online looking for stuff, so suggestions please.

Congrats man! Welcome to the RROD-free world.

Zombie Apocalypse is out on PSN right now if you're into that kinda thing.

Final Fantasy VII, Trine, and Wipeout HD are some good PSN titles (equivalent to XBLA).

For exclusive retail titles, I recommend Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and Demon's Souls.

My PSN ID is: MrJiPPi

Yup, I have my cross hairs set on MGS4, UC1&2 and Demon's Souls. That last one is quite expensive though.

I will add you guys once I get this thing updated. Let's hope there isn't some power failure during the actual patching... yikes.

I am also looking to buy Little Big Planet.

LBP is a great title. The multiplayer (local or online) is fun!

My PSN is: Zietoun

Catch you online! :D

Ran into my first piece of frustration. I registered an account under my normal username. When it came to selecting country, I selected India, as it was the closest. Unfortunately I now have access to nothing... and when I tried to change the country, I couldn't.

Yep, just like Xbox Live. Once you set your location you're stuck with it. That's exactly what happened with my first Xbox Live account. Now I have an account that's bound to my primary e-mail that I can't use. I asked Microsoft to close the account so I can release my e-mail and they basically said it was impossible for some stupid reason. I had to create a new e-mail and register it with Windows Live in order to create a new account. The part that pisses me off is why the F would they list locations that they don't support?!!

haha I will. But for now, for that amount of dough, I can get three or four other titles.

So far what I like about the PS3 more than the 360.

1. No RROD.
2. USB ports allow for tons of freedom. I can use any peripheral I want, even if it has nothing to do with Sony.
3. Built in WiFi is awesome.
4. 120GB is awesome, and can be upgraded to a big laptop drive with ease.
5. Blu-Ray is also a great bonus.
6. No RROD.
7. Controllers can be recharged by the base unit, meaning I save $$$ on batteries.

So far, I haven't played a single game on this thing, and I am already very impressed. All this freedom is just so unconsolelike.

Yep. I use my PS3 for general multimedia rather than just games, its native support for DivX is a big plus. It's also pretty easy to browse photos on it by just attaching a camera to the USB (or a memcard into the media card slots for certain European editions of the PS3).

I've used a friend's X360 extensively and I much prefer the PS3's interface. The only thing I like about the X360 is how easy it is to setup and sign into profiles, especially without having to exit the game either.

I'm really digging mine too. I ended up getting the slim a few weeks ago, and it's sweet. Blu-ray is pretty cool. And the game selection is pretty decent now. I also really like the controller thing. And the fact that it plays AVI is awesome too. I put TV shows on my thumb drive and watch shit on my TV.

You know, after I pay tuition for next semester, I might just do something crazy and buy one with a smaller HDTV.  Is, say a 32-inch HD unit a waste?

haha that's pretty much what I have been doing. For the last 6 hours I have just been messing around with this thing, and have been highly impressed by all the crazy little stuff it allows you to do.

This is like the PSP all over again. I am amazed by how much cool and useful functionality this thing is loaded with.

Get a 32 inch Samsung. They seem to blow everyone away in terms of picture quality. And no, I don't think it is a waste.

I know I've ripped on the PS interface before, but that's because my experience had been limited to the PS2.

This is pretty good... it is pretty similar to the PSP, which I thought was awesome.

Anyway, even if this thing didn't play games, it would work just as well as a media device.

All good game suggestions.

Folklore, BlazBlue, and The Darkness are other recommendations I'd give, though the last 2 aren't exclusive.  inFamous was quite good as well.

Glad you're liking it!  I'm sure you can already guess my PSN handle.

Fuck my PS3. The drive just failed again. $100 repair down the drain....

I think I'm gonna buy a slim. So sexy looking...

As for games...definitely LBP and Uncharted.

Now I'm torn between a PS3 and a Wii....again.  On one hand we have Zelda, Mario, and Link.  On the other we have more than three games that are fun to play. Damn it.

My thing about the Wii is, emulation can't be that far down the road. Isn't it basically the same technology as the Gamecube?

Wii emulation is running pretty close to on par with the GC on the same emulator (Dolphin).  Thing is, neither are good enough to be consistently playable. Don't get me wrong, what it is is pretty much amazing and I could probably make it all the way through Windwaker, but that's probably about it on my system unless it gets better optimized and they hammer out some bugs.

But, wicked point.  By the time I upgrade my PC, I imagine it'd be pretty awesome.

Does anyone here really think the Jasper is going to fix any of these problems?  I completely don't buy it.

It's too soon to tell, although early signs are good.  By this long into the original design's release, there were many more failures.  All consoles have some failures, as Ghandi knows.  It's a question of keeping them within reason (which Microsoft so far has not).

I just watched my first Blu-Ray movie (300).

Damn I love the PS3.
