Yes, I consulted the Zombie Survival Guide before deciding. Trench knife, designed for fighting in close quarters, with the idea of being able to stab downward through a helmet (or zombie skull). Silenced gun to avoid alerting nearby zombies. I chose an mp5 because it's probably good for a balance of close range and medium range. I'm no expert, but here I'm thinking I want something with better range than a pistol, but small and easy to handle. Single shot fire mode would be best for accurate headshots. there may be a better option than an mp5 (does it even have a single shot firing mode?)

I've always been a dual pistols guy.

I picked rifle, most likely a .22 caliber. The MP5 would be a great choice if you could A) find one and B) had the .22LR conversion kit. Need to use an extremely common ammo type, something you'll find everywhere.

Though a rifle isn't as nice indoors, so a backup pistol would also be carried. Same caliber.

A shotgun would be nice if you are going to be near or going to be entering a city and expect large crowds. Otherwise its a little overkill, and you better have someone else with you to cover you while you reload. Those things dont hold many rounds.

Doesn't an mp5 use standard 9mm ammo? Though I guess .22 bullets are much more common.

I'm don't actually know what it uses, to be honest. In the case of a zombie apocalypse I'd probably be unable to get my hands on one anyway.

Yes, it uses 9mm. But I seriously question how much ammunition is going to be lying around in convenient spots during an apocalypse. Your best bet is going to be a gun shop / retailer that sells ammunition. And they usually have a wide variety.

Also, I was thinking more of what would be the ideal weapon, not what I could actually find. If we're talking what is accessible, I've got a couple .22 rifles and ammo in the next room already. A few higher caliber rifles too, but I don't think there's any ammo for them.
