I think I'm pretty much over the bar scene...
« on: Sunday, November 15, 2009, 12:35:51 AM »
So, I don't go out that much. We maybe do something once a month with friends, and it's usually always going to a bar down around OSU campus to hang out. Which is what we did tonight. Now, I'm not a super social person, but I do enjoy going out with good friends once in a while. But the thing is, I like to hang out with my friends, talk to them, have a drink with them, see how life is. Thing is, you can't really do that when they are cranking some shitty ass music as loud as they can, and there are annoying recently turned 21, college fucktards around you talking about something that Steph did last night that was HIILLLAARRIOUSS.  By the end of the night, my throat hurts, I have a head ache, and I feel dirty as hell after using the piss covered bathroom a few times.

I like a place where I can sit down, there aren't people running into me constantly, and I don't have to watch all the girls I'm with to make sure they are not getting molested by some drunk douche bag. Tonight, I realized that I was entirely over that shit, and I don't really care if I ever step into a place like that again in my life. The only upside is that I always get horny drunk gf sex afterward, and then she passes out, and I get to play video games without interruption. I think I will insist that I pick the bar next time. Just a little nice quiet place with a jukebox where I can sit down and chat and visit with my buddies. Hopefully I can get through to them and show them how much better those places are. Man, am I getting old?

There is one cool loud place in Columbus thats pretty neat though; The Big Bang, they have dueling pianos, and they take any requests. Last time I requested "Rapper Delight" and "Burning For you" by the Blue Oyster Cult. It was quite dope

I don't care what you have to go through - if you utter this sentence at any point, you win. It's worth it.

I'd just like to point out that I really fucking hate you.  Also, you're never allowed to complain about anything else ever again.  Ever.  Or I will set your house on fire.

hahahh

Anyway, I think you are just getting older. I know exactly how you feel, and this is exactly why they have bars only for people in their 30s, and bars for people only in their 40s and 50s etc.

As a younger guy, I loved those bars where you could hardly hear what the other person was saying. But it quickly changed for me, as it does for everyone. It is something we all have to come to terms with at some point in our lives.

Actually, I pretty much always hated those places.  But that's probably because they never got me drunk sex and video games.

 ... asshole.

if you've got a girlfriend, you might as well just go somewhere you like - the only reason we go to those kind of places is because of the drunk women wanting to dance.

All part of growing up.

And I swear there's a Big Bang in every major city it seems.

I hate places that are so loud you have to scream into each other's ear to get understood.  Hate them.  I remember the OSU bar scene very well, though that was a different time.  For one thing, it was full of 18-year olds, let alone 21-year-olds.  Beer and nutshells adorned the floors.  Heh.

Hahahah. Okay, so that bit is a big plus, but still.

There is a bar night there on High st, near 8th that I used to love called, The Bier Stube. They had a great jukebox that played great music. Beatles, Tom Waits, Rolling Stones, Jerry Reed, Johnny Cash, The Replacements. And they had a root beer bottle cap shot that tasted exactly like root beer.  But it's gotten so overrun by hipsters that it's just annoying now. It's a small place, and so many people go in there now that you can't even move around really.

And yea, it's mostly stupid 17 year old girls trying to get guys to buy them drink and shit. I remember being outside at a patio bar last year. My chick went to go get us a beer, and this nasty girl that was likely under 18 came up to me while smoking her 100's asking me if I came to the place often, and if she could hang out with me. So, I told her no I was with my girlfriend, and then asked her if she had school tomorrow...

8th Street.  I don't remember anything South of 12th on High.  Maybe 11th.  At the time, it seemed if you went further than campus in either direction, everything became blight rather quickly.  Most of the bars we went to were between 12th and, oh, 20th?  Some had live music, and they usually played at ear-splitting levels.  My ears were ringing one time after I came out of this one place (around 17th, I think, on the East side of High) and I decided not to go in there again.

Columbus has grown a lot since the 70s, and looks like a real city now.  Back then, I swear it was 4 square blocks worth of big buildings rising out of the sticks.  That and lots of ugly urban neighborhoods.

I've never been into the bar scene. The few times I've gotten drunk has been with a handful of friends at one of our places, and usually involved a lot of drunk gaming. I guess it's that I've never been a really social person, but I've never liked the idea of a loud bar with too many people.

I've always associated bars with douchebags and slutty bitches you'd probably catch something from.

I've never been into it either. Like I said, I go because she usually wants to, and I figure I probably should be social once in a while, and my friends usually ALWAYS pick the place. Actually, it's mostly her friends. My friends are a lot more like me. They would much rather go relax on the boat, do some fishing, shoot the shit, and drink some beer.

I just realized last night that I just have no desire to go to those places again.

That drunken 21 year old douchebag used to be me at a bar. I thought the whole reason to going to a bar was to get obliterated, that is actually the last thing you're supposed to do at a bar.

I like the quieter, smaller bars. I love the jukebox (volume control) and I avoid live band, karaoke and DJs (can't hear) and I like to sit down at the actual bar and have drinks with my friends. I really hate when I go with a group of people and someone tries to "penetrate" the group, man or woman. I dunno, it's a pet peeve.

Even though I'm black, I like going to the honky tonk, redneck bars. They never bother me and it's more laid back. If I do put money in the juke, I play stuff that I think everyone will like...unless I'm leaving...than it's "YMCA" four times in a row.

I'm going to throw $5 in the machine at the local dive bar and put on YMCA as many times as possible every time I leave from now on.

Fucking great idea!
Suck it, Pugnate.

I enjoy going to a bar every now and then. But mostly it's to shoot a game or two of pool with some friends, and usually during mid-afternoon. I hate large groups of idiots, so I avoid going at night. Hanging out with friends is much better at someone's place.
