This one is very true, but is more about when you hit your teens...
You know you are getting older, when you are actually happy to get articles of clothing as gifts.
In my culture, we celebrate "Eid" instead of Christmas, and there is an exchange of gifts on the special day.
Back in the Middle East, as a kid, our uncle's family would come visit every year on Eid. And every year my parents would give toys to their kids, and vice versa. Well, one year, when I was about ten, we all sat down to open our gifts on the morning of Eid. My cousin opened his gift to find a big toy revolver shotgun (which I had picked for him), that was loaded with firecrackers. The gun didn't actually fire projectiles or anything, but the gun did make big cracking sounds with every shot. Yes, it was awesome.
Then, when I opened my gift... to my dismay, I found a fucking sweater. YES A SWEATER.
I was very very unhappy.
