Fuck that Constructor boss. I beat him by kind of cheesing it but I have no idea how you could legitimately beat that thing solo. Ate up half my caustic SMG ammo just breaking his shield.

Don't waste caustic on the shield.  Shock damage is better.  In fact, shock is better in BL2 than it is in 1.  After the shield is gone, switch to caustic.  But yeah, constructors are bitches, particularly if they get time to start assembling new armies of robots before your very eyes.

I would have used shock if I had one. I think 2 shock weapons have dropped for me this entire game so far.

Yes, drop rates are awful.  What you find in vendors is awful.  Hang on to any elemental Vladof machine pistols you find, down to green.  They kick the crap out of ARs, even Vladof's own, and even many SMGs (Maliwan or otherwise).

Yeah, you're right. The difficulty is just sort of jacked for solo play. Got a quest, my quest log says normal difficulty. Find some varkids and inject one of their pods. Out pops a mutated badass, with an attack that one shots my shield, second shot nearly kills me, and 3rd shot does kill me. I manage to take it down with mostly pure luck and use of my mechro robot. Then the quest tasks me with doing it 4 more times.

Damn it, Gearbox.

Had my first slag weapon drop. Yes, 15 levels and not a single one dropped until now. Dunno if that normal, like its limited to weapons level 15 and up but it was sorta weird. Lucky too because I used that SMG on the mutated badasses then switched to a fire SMG and pounded some damage into it.

Luckily pyro and I got multiplayer going the other night and its mostly playable for me. So perhaps I'll end up just playing online like Gearbox apparently wants me to.

EDIT:
So this is interesting. Just loading up the game you automatically "online", and playing solo people can join your game or something like that. No one has so far so I didnt worry about it and left the setting alone. Reading threads online of people not noticing the difficulty spike from BL1...I was confused. How can you not tell the difference? It sure felt like the game wanted me to be playing with another person. So...I wondered....

In-game (not a Steam thing) I set BL2 to Offline play. I don't know if that really changed anything or what, but it sure felt like things were taken down a notch in difficulty. It wasnt easy, but it felt like I was fighting same level opponents instead of buffed ones. I'll play some more like that, maybe switch it back and see if I can notice anything, but maybe its an obscure bug?

Another weird thing. Random gun generator somehow managed to generate the exact same SMG for me twice.

EDIT2:
Ok, maybe its just in my head or something. Playing "online" (by myself) and things went ok. Maybe I just leveled up enough and found some decent weapons.

Still...fuck constructors.

I'm desperately trying to devote a little time here and there to BL. Just killed the Baron and dug in a bit after that, finished off Zombie Island. Like level 34 I think right now. Just trying to blast through the rest so I can maybe get into 2 a little when I find time.

Awesome. Pyro and I played a little more BL2 tonight. Some lag, which is to be expected. The kind of random crash right before the boss sucked but luckily I was able to get back in without too much trouble. Dunno what causes the crash, only one I had in SP was me shooting a rocket shotgun into a berzerker that just did his weird blood transform. Probably the physx blood went crazy or something....just guessing.

So still having a lot of fun with this. Up to level 23 now. Difficulty has kind of leveled off a bit, but maybe I'm just getting more leveled up because Im doing all the sidequests. I respecced my mechromancer and started using Anarchy, which should pretty much be standard issue for all mechromancers. Every time you kill an enemy or empty your weapon (in combat only), you gain a stack of anarchy which increases your gun damage but reduces your accuracy. Once you build up like 200 stacks and wield a powerful shotgun you just one-shot most anything that comes near you. Those "crappy" shotguns with high damage but tiny mags and low accuracy? Those are for anarchy. The hardest part is reloading manually will remove all your stacks. Thats also why low mag size shotguns that reload after every shot are ideal. A, it adds a stack every shot and B, cant accidentally reload it.

And if I had another gripe, its the menus. Better than BL1? Yes. But they arent really good menus. When I respecced it was a pain to do because you have to switch panes. There is a button to show all 3 panes at once...great! Oh, except in that mode mousing over a skill doesnt show what that skill does. Really, Gearbox?

heh, sorry man.

I went and did all my sidequests before doing the next story mission. I'm pretty overleveled for them so it wasn't that hard. Even so, those arena battles get crazy. Loot was dropping around me level so I'm guessing by round 5 it was close to same level stuff (Im level 27, was getting level 25 drops and such). Lucky I had my Deathtrap with me, even then he would get killed and Id have to work the room for a minute before I could resummon him. But that round 5....I had like 5-6 second winds before it was all over. Oh, and there was a secondary objective for each round to get a bunch of critical kills. Thats something you do in co-op because no way was I going to be able to pay attention to that and live.

Then for a bit I felt bad, because the very next quest I picked up was "Kill 100 bandits". I did way more than that doing the arena line, I would have been done! But this quest had secondary objectives. 4 of them, each one was kill 25 bandits with fire, shock, corrosive, and explosive. The trick being that when you hit 100, no matter how they die, thats it. If you don't do the numbers exactly then you'll fail the bonus. So I went back into a low level area where I wouldn't have to run around like crazy. Long story short, I was able to complete all 4 secondary objectives. Got a funny sniper rifle and some cash for the trouble.

All I have now is the story quest, and it looks like its going to be a little crazy.

I just beat the main story! Hooray! Though it was funny, the fight leading up to the last boss I felt was more difficult than the last boss itself. Though note to self, constructors really don't like my rocket launcher.

Also my Deathtrap sorta screwed things up at the end. See, in the last fight room there are all these rakk flying around for easy second winds, and they constantly respawn. Letting Deathtrap loose in there and he just constantly kills them, and each kill extends how much time he stays out...so he just stays out continuously. This is fairly useful (and you can totally farm XP by just letting him out and walking away from your computer for a while), except when you want to listen to the last words of Jack and maybe do the bonus objective but then Deathtrap just targets and one shots him mid-sentence. Thanks, dude! Thanks a whole bunch!

So now I can finish up some of the side quests and then jump into the DLC! I'm probably already overleveled for that stuff so it should be just a fun time with pirates.

Ahaha!  Yes, letting DT kill hundreds of rakks is entertaining and useful.  On the console, with splitscreen mode, you can level up a second character quickly this way.  He just stands away from the fight, and collects tons of XP from DT.

I wish I could do that easily on PC. Would like to level some other characters but going through the whole game again....I dunno if I want to. Especially since you have to go through the game again just to reach the level cap on one character.

The DLC is pretty cool so far. And yes, I'm overleveled for it so it goes by pretty quick.

The DLC for BL2 is pretty good, but the new skin pack is kind of weird. 15 heads and skins, which is 3 new heads and skins for each character. The catch? All sold separately. 99 cents per head/skin combo. Not really sure how well this is even going to sell considering for the most part you don't see yourself in-game.

Granted I like collecting all the heads and skins that are already in the game, or come with the big DLC packs. I just am not interested in paying to buy a bunch more individually. Of course its all on Steam so just wait for a $2 "All Skins" sale.

This is why we can't have nice things.
I love how it's often white guys who find something racially offensive to other peoples' ethnicity.

No offence to anyone here, of course, but I've gone through similar situations in university where a group of multicultural, multi-ethnic people are having a discussion and a white person gets up and accuses a Latino guy of offending the Africans by saying "Black" in English or "negro" in Spanish despite the Africans speaking out and saying there was no offence taken at all (P.S. in that scenario I was in the African crowd even though I'm not Black, I'm technically African, geographically Egyptian etc.).

Anyway, I really hope they don't change Tina. I love her as she is!

Seriously. Ok, I was a bit miffed when I first read it, now I'm actually getting angry about it. Ok, "angry" might be a bit  strong but it's somewhere between miffed and angry about it.

Almost makes me wanna get a Twitter account just to support the writer and Tiny Tina.. Yeah, I'm not getting a Twitter account.

Yeah, that's what I figured almost immediately after first seeing the bullshit.  The game as it stands is safe from the morons (no retroactive whitewashing).

It's a shame he would even go that far.  I'd tell the fuckers to stick their race card up their ass sideways.

More stuff!

New vault hunter: Krieg, the Psycho. Yeah, you get to play as one of the enemies...or something. Melee focused in a game about randomly generated guns? Ok... He's gonna be $10.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode: a New Game++, a third playthrough on an even higher difficulty. This will be a free update, but not too useful unless you get...

This new pack, free for season pass owners, $5 otherwise. This pack raises the skill cap to 61 and adds a new top tier Pearlescent weapons.

Gearbox's Shift thing is not far off from Ubisoft's Uplay. Well, sorta. You end up having to go to a website to set it up for the first time. Then from within the game you can go to extras, then Shift, and put in codes. For Borderlands 2 these are Golden Keys 90% of the time. (golden keys open the chest in town, which seems to be 100% chance of being epic, and you get 2-4 items.) Once or twice they've given away character outfits with Shift codes. For Aliens: Colonial Marines, they did it once that I know of and it gave a new marine customization option in multiplayer (a chest emblem).

From watching the official Gearbox twitter, as well as Randy Pitchford's, I have something like 65 golden keys. I'm saving most for when I hit max level (not even playing the game right now, so it may be a while lol).

Yep.  And think about what that means for the game.  It means that the best looting mechanic is to follow Randy on twitter.  The game has a ridiculously low drop rate of anything worthwhile, with most of the best stuff being reserved for raid bosses and other such situations where multiple players are a practical requirement.  I am so done with it.

The stuff I've gotten from the golden chest has always been leaps and bounds beyond what I had at the time. You don't always get what you want though. I've been using SMGs, assault rifles, and shotguns mostly. I can use a key and get 2 snipers, or 4 shields, or 4 grenades (which are all good, but not of a style that I like). There's enough variety in item slots and variations that the chance of actually getting the weapon type you want is pretty low.

I always seem to get rocket launchers when I use the keys. Those things are almost impossible to use with any regularity because of the extremely low ammo you can hold.

Man, Gearbox, make a class that can hold a lot of rocket ammo so I can rain death and explosions on my foes.

Some more details on the new stuff. April 2nd brings the patch with free stuff, including:
Quote
     Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode Details

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is unlocked for a character once they have completed the main story missions in True Vault Hunter Mode and reached level 50.
Unlike other playthroughs, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode can be replayed multiple times with players able to reset their overall mission progress at any time from the Main Menu.
No more tutorial missions -- characters in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode begin in Southern Shelf with the "Cleaning Up the Berg" mission.
While playing in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, enemies and bosses will scale according to the player's current level or, if playing with others, the highest-level player in that party.
        Gameplay changes in UVHM:
            Enemy health generally increased 4x.
Enemies now have a moderate amount of health regeneration.
Increased duration of slag damage multiplier effect.
Upped the damage that slagged enemies take from 2x to 3x.
Weapon swap speed increased to better facilitate slag use.
Enemies now more likely to drop ammo.
Loot Midgets are now "Legendary Loot Midgets" that can drop Legendary and other top-tier gear.

Also, storage upgrades!
Quote
Changes in 4/2 Software Update (Free)

Adds new items to the Black Market:
One additional ammo upgrade for each ammo type, at 50 Eridium each.
Two more backpack storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
Two more bank storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
Increases the maximum amount of Eridium players can hold from 99 to 500.
Adds a new playthrough balanced for top-tier play: Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
        Various bug fixes.

Just finished Borderlands 2 (PC), after 62 hours total or so (OMG!).

Wowsers, as much as I loved the original (b/c it just felt so fresh & different than most games - i.e. combine a FPS with a loot-driven ARPG), this sequel was such an improvement in the original. Every real concern I had w/ lack of storytelling; some characters not having much really to them; and a not-so-great final boss battle = all gone in this game.

Though, again - I just wish the end....
(click to show/hide)

Regardless, awesome game. :D

Though, again - I just wish the end....
(click to show/hide)

I didn't really feel that way after beating it.

(click to show/hide)

I really got burned out on the game after a while when it first came out. I lagged behind my friends and didn't beat the game until around the time the first DLC came out. I didn't play the first DLC until around the time the second DLC came out, and that's where I sort of stopped. So then Krieg the psycho came out, and a friend offered to buy it for me if I actually played. So I played through the whole game again, with my high level friend jumping in occasionally, then we did all 3 DLCs. He's been busy lately and I still can't scratch the itch, I just want to keep playing.

I think it boils down to me choosing the wrong character to play when the game first came out. In BL1 I played the siren, which had a cool special ability that was very active. (phasewalk, basically stealth with the ability to make it do cool stuff when entering/leaving or during) The siren's ability in BL2 is boring in comparison. You get to lock one enemy down for a couple seconds, and they take more damage. It doesn't change anything about how you move or fight. So now with Krieg, I'm specced for full on melee, and it's so fun. I think part of it is the crazy shit he yells, because I'm having way more fun with him than I did messing with Brick in BL1. Oh, also the ability to throw your axe while doing your rampage.

So, Krieg the Psycho, so far...
I'm level 42 now. I've completed all 3 DLC packs with him, and I'm on playthrough 2, just reached Sanctuary. The early levels were tough, and I felt like I would die almost every time I used my Buzz Axe Rampage. This was partly because I was trying to use it defensively. See, I skimmed the skill trees early on, and decided to go with the middle tree, which is all about charging in with no regard. The final skill in that tree makes BAR instantly heal you, and you take less damage, but these benefits only work if you use it when below 33% health. With this in mind, I was using it when in trouble, but didn't have the key skill to make it useful in that way. Without that skill, I feel like BAR needs to be used more offensively. Now that I have that skill though? I feel almost unkillable. Oh, there's a badass? No problem, let him get me low, pop BAR, and just beat his face in. I willingly get in the fact of any enemy in the game, because I know that if my health gets low, I start taking less damage and doing more damage.

Initially I had planned on putting extra points into the left tree, which is focused on stacking buffs based on usage of guns. I changed my mind and now I'm going to spec into setting myself on fire (the right tree). Chance to set yourself on fire, damage reduction while on fire, more fire damage, healing from fire damage. I expect to basically be running around on fire and setting things on fire, then when situation calls for it, I can use BAR to wreck things.

To be honest, my biggest fear after playing Krieg, is that Borderlands 3 won't have a class this fun.

EDIT:
Oh, 1st playthrough on BL1 and BL2 - both were as Siren. Yeah, I loved Lilith's Phase-walk skill and surely used that A LOT more than Maya's Phase-skill. I mainly threw my skillpoints for Maya only into the Harmony section skill-set.

the fantasy theme of this new DLC has really pointd out to me that Borderlands is structured just like an MMO. You go to town, talk to NPCs and get quests, go out into a zone and do some quests, come back to town and turn it in for a reward. There's even "raid bosses" (only up to 4 people but they're referred to as raid bosses by the community) that have almost Warcraft-like mechanics and each have their own loot table.

The new DLC is pretty good, probably the best of the 4. It's got a lot of humor and a lot of references. It even touches on some more serious topics in a couple places.

I also think I may have fallen into a hole. A friend who refuses to play on Xbox got the game on PC, and I did too. Now I'm maintaining characters on both versions of the game, and playing with the 2 groups separately. Raptr now shows 6 hours logged on the PC version, and 308 hours on the Xbox version.

EDIT: I'm getting something weird (but good) with the PC version. I haven't put in a single code for a golden key, but I'm randomly getting them. I had 2 the first time I logged in. Later I had 14 and decided to spend 3. I just now started it up and have 13 again.

That sounds like most ARPG's, actually - whether SP, MP, or MMO.

EDIT:
I always thoughts of Borderlands as being basically (a much better) Hellgate: London w/ guns.

PC Gamer -> Borderlands 2 will have more DLC; new IP coming eventually from GearBox.

Quote
It’s easy to imagine Borderlands 2’s trail of DLC ending with an adventure in Tiny Tina’s schizophrenic mind, but CEO and President of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford has different plans.

Speaking on the Nerdist podcast, Pitchford said people had assumed there would only be four pieces of DLC as that’s what’s included in the season pass, but assumptions aren’t always correct.

“Everyone has this expectation that those would be the four DLCs and then that’s it,” Pitchford said. “We’re going to do more. We’re going to do some other things. We don’t have details yet about it exactly.

“We’ve got more stuff in the hopper that we’re planning and that we’re getting pretty excited about. So if you are a Borderlands fan, you don’t have to be afraid that that’s the end of it.”

The podcast ended on a mysterious note when Pitchford teased that Gearbox is working on a new IP for next-gen consoles (and PC?).

“We are building an original IP for the next generation that we’ll announce sometime later,” Pitchford said.

Pitchford didn’t give a time table for when we might hear more about this mysterious new IP, though it likely won’t be any time this year, considering we’re just hearing about it now rather than at E3.
