Moving again
« on: Tuesday, April 06, 2010, 11:06:37 AM »
So I should be in my new place tomorrow. Long story short, problems with another landlord. They were complete assholes.

Anyway tomorrow is the big day. May not have the internetsssss for the next few so yea...

Shit I hate moving. I am on my laptop right now. I just went and dropped off the TVs, the computer, the monitor and the two consoles. Tomorrow is when the crapfest really begins.

DAMNIT I HATE MOVING!

Yeah, moving in general always sucks but you have the added burden of generators and batteries.  I can't imagine how much that would suck.

haha yea. Having that installed at the new place takes a few days which means living through a few hours of darkness in excessive heat each day till it happens.

Plus have to have the airconditioners installed at the new place, and they aren't the simple wall kind. They are the split variety.

My last landlord was actually from Canada who came back because of a sick mother in law. The place had a bad termite problem (the wood was old) and there were some other issues, so I had to leave, which was a pity, because the landlord was awesome. My landlord before that was some crazy religious gun wielding idiot as you may recall.

The place I am leaving now (basically my third house since I got here), I moved into not 5 months ago. These people turned out to be nuts and very illiterate. There was a gas leak on their property and they got a bill for about $400 in excess and told us we had to pay it. Obviously they were wrong and in the end we decided to part ways. There were other problems as well, and the estate agent advised clearing out the house before things got worse.

My newest landlord is actually a really nice dude. He is only a bit older than me, and is actually from Singapore. He is probably going back in a few months, but seems like a NORMAL person... which is so hard to find in this fucked up country. I am hoping that the fourth time is the charm etc.

Yea you don't seem to have the best luck with landlords but I hope this new one works out for you. Anyway, we'll all be here missing your crazy news story posts, I'm sure D will find solace with Que in the mean time while you're gone. Hope the move goes smoothly!

The problem is that people in this part of the world are illiterate and many are almost what you would define as extremists. Looking for a place here, you are better off trying to find a landlord who is of a similar background first, before looking at the house.

My last place was quite nice, but the landlord was nuts.

My first place was OK, but that was just some jihadist landlord or something. I wasn't making that shit up even. They actually tried to break our door down while they were armed with a gun. The guy attended religious rallies and anti American rallies and stuff. One rally he was at, there was a bomb explosion and a lot of people died. Not making it up.

Anyway, my new place is really sweet and the landlord is nice. I will definitely post pics.

Good luck, man.  It's rough in any country, let alone over there.  Hope this one works out for you!

Been packed and ready to go since 9 am. Packed everything incl the router etc (leeching wifi off the neighbors) and the shippers didn't show. Kept calling till about 10 without luck. At 10:15 got a reply that they were on the way.

At 11 I hear they won't come till 12.

Really really annoyed because I woke up at 8:30 and was packing away all night. Bah!

New place is nicer. Just found someone to leech wifi off of, but it won't last long.

Nice buddy.  A step up is always good even if moving is a total bitch.

Thanks... :)

They just installed the cable stuff. I use cable for my backup internet, and DSL as my main thing, which I am still waiting for.

Moving was really really horrible. It basically took about 13 hours (both places were up a flight of stairs) including an hour long lunch break. While the movers did most of it, it was still stressful because a lot of the furniture was glass stuff. And they chipped the wood off the new bed, which sucked.

I have waaaaay too much stuff.

I moved the four cats at the end, and they were just going insane.

Here I am in my newer place, on my laptop, in the darkness (rolling blackout, and the generator isn't connected), surrounded by a mess that will take weeks to sort... but at least it is over.

At least it's over... let that be your mantra for the next month.  I'm still in the process of moving to my place because I moved from a 3 bedroom condo with my wife to a sort-of-studio-sort-of-one-bedroom by myself.  It's taking *forever*.

Yea man, thank god it is over.

Actually had ten days to move, but I would rather get it over with.... though it has left me aching all over.

But yea, moving over the course of 10 days would have left me feeling restless until the task was finished.

The place I am in now has a lot better air circulation. This means that I don't have to use the AC nearly as much, which means saving money on the electric bill.

I will post some once the house is looking better.

In other news my AC isn't working very well, which leads me to believe the gas leaked during shipping... which SUCKS!

Freon.  It goes through cycles of compression and evaporation to literally squeeze the heat out.  Without it, no cooling.
