ENLIGHT ANNOUNCES X3: REUNION 2.0

New Features, DVD format, and No Starforce in Newest Version of Award-Winning Space Sim – Coming to Retail Stores in Early November

PARKVILLE, MD — (October 31, 2006) — Enlight, one of the world’s leading developers and publishers of entertainment software for the PC platform, today announced the development of X³: Reunion 2.0, an updated version of the award-winning X³: Reunion released earlier this year.  X³: Reunion 2.0 adds many new features to the original X³: game while alleviating the issues that were a barrier to some players. Available in November in DVD format, X³: Reunion 2.0 features no Starforce protection, enabling more players to access the game without the potential performance issues of the copy protection.

“With X³: Reunion 2.0 we’ve addressed the issues that matter most to gamers in removing the Starforce protection mechanism, and putting the game onto a single DVD instead of 5 CDs,” said Paul Lombardi, chief executive officer of Enlight Interactive, USA. “We’ve also added a number of features that make X3 an even larger universe than before with even more missions, ships, and features.”

X³: Reunion is the Sequel to the award winning X²: The Threat. The game introduces a new 3D engine as well as a new story, new ships and a new gameplay to greatly increase the variety in the X-universe. The economy of X³: Reunion is more complex than anything seen in the X-universe before. Factories are being built by NPCs, wars affect the global economy, NPCs can trade freely, and pirates behave far more realistically.

Extensive development has gone into the X³ engine, making full use of DirectX 9 technology to create dramatic visual effects and stunningly realistic starships. Coupled with the massively enhanced A.L. (Artificial Life) system, X³: REUNION presents players with an ever-changing, evolving universe where players’ actions really shape the future of the universe. Newcomers will enjoy the additions to the already graphically impressive, almost living X³-Universe, while veterans can expect new construction options and an improved physics model.

The Story
What has happened so far: While the Argon fleet is stretched almost to the breaking point by the continuing attacks from Khaak, a new enemy is stalking the X-universe. What links a mysterious ship with the power to disappear, the ruthless Yaki pirates, and a machine left by an ancient species? It’s time to strap yourself in, warm up your laser cannon, and get some answers.

New Features

·         DVD format

·         No Starforce copy protection

    * The Bala Gi EXPANSION - a campaign to unlock a unique new spacecraft and get hold of the biggest construction set in the X universe so far: The headquarters station
    * The exclusive (and unique) M6 class battleship once owned by the Pontifex Maximus Paranidia himself - this ship is lean and mean and can host two M5 ships
    * Bala Gi Research Inc. have developed a new M3+ class of ships - during the game you can distribute the blueprints for this new masterpiece in ship construction to the various shipyards
    * Exotic space ships
    * Revised battle tactics
    * Exciting missions for all difficulty levels
    * The award winning X3 engine has been further enhanced creating an absolutely stunning universe.

I'll be damned if that isn't tempting.  Shoot.  I might have to pick that up.

I should also note that for those who already own X3: Reunion on disc (5-6 CD Edition or DVD Edition, all both contain StarForce), there will be a patch coming soon that will add all of that new extra content (Bala Gi Mission expansion content) AND remove the need of StarForce from the actual game.

Though, I must admit, X3: Reunion on one DVD w/ everything for content (and no StarForce!) does sound nice....hehe. :)

I am certainly tempted! I've played Freelancer and Darkstar One. They were both great, but seemed lacking in many areas. X3 might be the space-sim answer I've been searching for!

I do have X3, myself.

X3 is the Oblivion of space sims.

Egosoft releases a new bonus package for X3

Quote
X³ Reunion - Bonus Package 3.1.06

Fleet commanders in X have a difficult task in coordinating their many fighter squadrons. The group management system provides assistance in controlling large fighter groups. Now it is possible to command a fighter group to quickly attack and also retreat with the carrier.

When a ship is reverse engineered in the headquarters a blueprint for mass production is created. This process involves teams of engineers painstakingly removing, analyzing, documenting and storing the ship components. The drawback of this operation is that the resources that were used to manufacture the ship cannot be recycled. However, engineers can instead opt to strip the ship solely for these resources. This process is of course faster but will not result in the creation of a production blue print.

Many freighter pilots have reported the strange disappearance of their freight. Intelligence reports from underground sources suggest a "shield hacker" device has been covertly developed by pirates. However, no exemplars have been recovered for examination. Any pilot gaining possession of such a device should immediately contact the Argon authorities. Keep your eyes peeled!

The Bonus Package version 3.1.06 is now available for download in the download section.

The following items are in this Pack:

- Cartel Shield Hacker
- Afterburner
- Commercial Agent
- Commodity Logistics Software MK1
- Commodity Logistics Software MK2
- Dock Ware Manager
- Explorer Software
- Fleet Support Ship Software
- Group Management System
- Group Hotkeys
- Manual Trade Commands
- Missile Defense Mosquito
- Remote Transporter Device
- Scrap Ship at Player HQ
- Station Manager

Enjoy the new Bonus Package!

Not only that, but Egosoft is fully supporting and promoting a (free) fan-made mod for X3, called XTM -- which adds a lot of new content.
XTM Fan-Made Mod (338 MB)

We strongly recommend that you check this out as it will add hour upon hour of game play and transform X3: Reunion into a different game.

...

Mods are pretty common for PC games these days. It's fair to say that when the first modders started to ask questions and get creative, developers largely ignored them, and in fact often discouraged them. Times have changed - here at Egosoft we have always prided ourselves on taking as much initiative from fans as possible, and when some fans group together and create something as remarkable as XTM, we believe that they deserve as much support as possible.

So, if you're new to modding or just wondering what this new release will give you, check out the screens and read on.

Just what does XTM give you? Well...

- an incredible 90 new universe sectors, including the Terran Solar System and new race sectors
- over 90 new ships from all races, including the M0 and a selection of ships remodelled and brought back from X2
- new in-game effects, from weapons to soundtracks to planets
- new commands, new stations, new wares and commodities, even new ship types.

The list is endless, the download is not. Get XTM .7 now and open your eyes to an X universe created directly by the fans for the fans.

If it's anything like X2, it's awesome.  That game had some issues, but it was the coolest space sim I've ever played, hands down.  It wasn't as focused as something like Freespace, or Wing Commander, or whatever, but that's what I liked about it.  It wasn't just combat... there was exploration and a sense of scale and pace that hasn't been matched anywhere else, ever.  I'd love to get into X3, but I just plain don't have the time.

I've been playing the hell out of this game, past few days -- and really enjoying it.

So, here's some MyD Screenies he has taken:
