Awesome!

So, sony might release the two games in HD for the PS3. Totally going to get it. I still play SOTC from time to time. I've played ICO, but my nephew stole, and sold my copy of it years ago. I'd love to play it again!

And when the hell is The Last Guardian supposed to come out? There has been no news on it for months.

I wish it was the case across the board! Sega insists on reselling old games, without any changes, on new platforms. If you've browsed the Steam store you'll see the new listing of classic Sega Genesis titles. I would have considered buying them if they were remastered versions.

A good example of something I though was great: Monkey Island SE! Worth every penny. It's a revival of a classic game, not a tired and dated reiteration of the exact same thing.

I have no problem w/ re-releasing or re-vamping the graphics into HD for the classics - as long as they freakin' work on modern systems/platforms w/out issues.

I have The Secret of Monkey Island SE from Steam...ain't touched it yet...

I think a big part of the problem for Sega is that HD versions would be very very expensive...at least if they went the sprite route. Polygons, on the other hand......

. . . scale nicely into HD. The hard work there involves the 2D overlays, text, etc. So ICO and SotC should port up properly without reinventing too much.

Its more or less confirmed at this point. A listing for it showed up on Walmart.com a few days ago, and now Famitsu has talked about it. We'll know more about it tomorrow after the TGS press conference.

There's a rumor floating around that the game may not indeed be a collection and could be sold separately. I hope that is not the case, but even if it does end up being release as two separate games, I will likely pick up both.

Not just straight ports, looks like they are updating some textures and such. SOTC will be solid 30FPS (I guess the game was designed around 30FPS. Which matters for animation. Ever play Halo on PC with uncapped FPS? Jitter-city animations.)

The version of Ico will be the european version, which had a slightly different ending and a few other little changes.

You know how much I love Shadow of the Colossus? I don't have a PS3, but I really would like to play some of it's games, like Uncharted, Resistance, and Killzone. Shadow of the Colossus is the one that makes me really fucking want a PS3 though, above all those others.

Damn I think I might borrow my brother's PS2 again and play some SoC.

This is a review of ICO from a defunct gaming site called the GIA that focused mainly on RPGs and unique titles. I feel like ICO had something of a quiet release and the first time I really anything of substance about it was after reading this review. I immediately jumped on a bus and then a train and then another bus to get to the only game store that I knew in the area (there weren't a lot of easily accessible stores that sold games in Berkeley at the time). When I got there the clerk told me I should be buying something else (I think it was Spy Hunter) because ICO was gay and "boring as fuck." Just take my money dude.

Also, Giant Bomb did a quicklook of the set. The games still look awesome.

Ico was awesome. I love how it told a story without words or narration. That's pretty impressive.

Edit: Thinking back, I remember Ico more fondly. Shadow of the Colossus was impressive to me for its unconventional design, like Ico, and the battles with the colossi were incredible but in between those battles there wasn't much fun to be had. Sure, there was the wonder of the world and a slight element of exploration, but it was kind of boring. Ico had far fewer lulls and when it did, there was still a large sense of weight to the game.

One thing I've seen talked about is the resolution. The game will run in whatever res your PS3 is outputting to your TV. In the case of SotC running in 1080p causes slowdown (for that authentic PS2 feel!). If you limit the PS3 to outputting 720p then the game runs smoothly. So just keep that in mind.

So...bought, playing, is awesome. Getting to relive these games because its been so long since I played either.

And I just have to say fuck you to the Water Tower section of Ico. FUCK YOU SO HARD. Maybe its because I'm a little tired but I must have had to replay that section like 30 goddamn times due to bad jumps or something. Seriously. According to my save file I just blew 40 minutes getting through there (there goes the 4 hour trophy...will have to get it on playthrough 2).
