According to an
IGN report,
Bakumatsu Revolution is an upcoming "ten hour quest, complete with four player support, that's free to download and play."
Bakumatsu Revolution, from publisher Acquire and developer Zero Div, is a free to download and play RPG. Make the download via PSN, and you'll be able to play through a 10 hour quest, either on your own or cooperatively via ad-hoc with three others. Acquire is even setting up the game so that you can download it from another PSP owner who's already made the download.
So what's the catch? That's somewhat unclear at present. Japan's Famitsu magazine, which got the scoop on the game, says there will be downloadable items and quests. We're going to assume that these will be paid downloads. That Pocky isn't free, after all.
It looks like it'll be free-to-play but certain cosmetic items etc. will cost; it's the Korean free-to-play business model.
Japan will get this great PSP experiment on June 25. A release outside of Japan has yet to be announced.
I am kinda glad that the PSP is starting to get into the MMO market, even though I'm not into them, it's certainly something that platforms like the PSP could benefit from.
