New PS3/PSP firmwares released
« on: Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 09:56:37 AM »
The main reason is to add PSN+ support to the systems. The PS3 also has updates to the photo browser adding uploading and downloading of Picasa and Facebook galleries, and theres now a video editor allowing for upload to Facebook and Youtube and such. Because I know you were all clamoring for video editing on your PS3.

The PSP update might be a little more interesting. It doesn't seem to add anything in particular, but it now has the ability to sort installed games by type. The interesting part are the options: PSP, Minis, Playstation (PSOne), PC Engine, and NEOGEO. Looks like we've got some new emulation options on the PSP coming soon.

Well, there was the EyeCreate app, which is a very simple video tool. I hope the video editing in this update is a little more comprehensive. Not that I'm going to be using it much.

That's pretty interesting about the PSP sorting. Well, NeoGeo games are already available for the PSP e.g. the SNK pack volume 1 and the Samurai Showdown pack. PC Engine could refer to some of the casual PC games (Gameloft) that made it to the PSP, like Brain Challenge.

Those already released NeoGeo collections would probably be sorted under PSP. So I think they are going to sell individual NeoGeo games on PSN, like they do with PSOne games.

PC Engine actually refers to the TurboGrafx-16, which was known as PC Engine in Japan.

Magic Engine (TG16/PCE emulator) is just about perfect by now.

Thanks, Cobra. I haven't used an emulator for quite a while, nearly forgot about the emu scene!
