Not to mention that actually running modern looking games (or even not so modern) at that resolution can push even some newer computers.

Really though, how fancy does an Angry Birds machine need to be?

Hey, a new Infinity Blade I might be interested in. No more simon says, looks like a Diablo-style action game.

Adventure Bar Story is 99 cents for launch. Not Kairosoft, but a port of a Japanese PSP game.

Assassins Creed Recollections dropped to free again and will be receiving a Universal update any day now to make it playable on iPhone/iPods.

AC Recollections is an interesting game.  Quite complicated though so you need to play through the tutorial to learn the basics.

Poker Pals is like Words with Friends but with playing cards.  Not sure if I really like it or not though.

Do we really live in an era where people compare something to Words with Friends instead of Scrabble?

The Assassin's Creed Recollection game is a lot of fun if you like card-based games.   You can build a fairly decent deck without paying any money (will require 'grinding' though to gain credits to buy packs).  You get a fair amount of credits by playing the story mode and the challenge mode.  If you play online you can get up to 500 Animus credits per day (enough for 5 'Templar' packs or 1 mixed pack; the best pack, the Assassin's deck, is 900 credits).  Obviously if you want to build a powerful deck quickly then you can spend money and buy booster packs.

There are a couple imbalances with the game, but for the most part it's quite even.

The game's tutorial is quite inadequate to tell you about the nuances of the cards though; it will only tell you how to play.  There are various keywords that one must play in order to know what happens.

Well the iPad retina updates are starting to roll in and...yup, filesizes are going up. For example, Carcassonne updated today:

Before: 161MB
After: 307MB

It nearly doubled, and everyone with an older iPad, iPhone, or iPod just has to deal with it for no benefit. Thanks, Apple!

How dare you question Apple's choices, you inferior human scum. Clearly they have done you a favor since you now get to spend more time downloading things you can't use. It's generosity, pure and simple!

Food Fight is one sale for $1.99
Nightfall just released for $4.99

Both are deckbuilding games kind of like Ascension...and oh hey look at that, both of them are by Playdek, the guys that made Ascension iOS.

A quote from someone explaining Nightfall a bit:
Quote
Nightfall and Ascension are similar in scope. In the hobby boardgame market, "deck building" refers to any game the borrows its inspiration from Dominion in that you are creating your deck on the fly during game play, rather than pre-constructing your own deck prior to the beginning of the game. Nightfall comes closer to Magic: the Gathering than Ascension did in that you have card effects where you get to choose specific targets and you have to choose a target opponent when your minions attack.
Sounds cool to me.

I grabbed Food Fight since it was on sale and gave it a quick spin, and it seems neat. Its like a spiced up version of War. The deck building comes at the start of each round through a drafting process. Each player gets 9 random cards, takes 1, and passed the rest to the left. Again, pick 1 and pass until all the cards are chosen. Then out of your hand you choose 5 cards to take into battle. Battles are breakfast, lunch, or dinner and there can be multiple battlefields on the table to choose from. Once the battle starts your 5 cards are shuffled and then drawn and put up against the opponents drawn card. Cards can have special effects and you can have extra "instants" to play to give you the edge. You win, you earn a "mint", and then the next cards are drawn and fight. When all the cards are used up whoever has the most mints wins and you earn the battlefield card. Those battlefield cards can be worth 1-3 points and first player to 10 wins the game.

Its pretty simple to figure out, still has some randomness involved, but its pretty cool. The art is really nice, it has async multiplayer, and I think some kind of singleplayer campaign that Ill try tomorrow. I'd say worth the $2.

Zombies, Run!, the helpful running app where you are being chased by zombies, has dropped in price to $3.99. Thats half off! I'm tempted...wonder how well it works on just an ipod with no GPS.

Ok, looks like without GPS you'll miss out on the zombie chases. But you'll apparently get all the other gamey stuff. Seems they are working on non-GPS zombie chases using the accelerometer, but its hard to tell if you've actually sped up with that and it changes depending on if your ipod is in your pocket or on an armband. Hopefully they work something out.

Epic Astro Story is out now, $3.99. New game from Kairosoft...or old game since its been on Android for a while now. Looks like one of their town building games, but this time on alien worlds! Plus alien fighting or something.

ZDAY Survival Simulator is free. Text-based zombie survival adventure? Yeah I'll play that.

so anyone having trouble adding me on Gamecenter...I figured out why. I mistyped my nickname. I had it set as "idominds".

Luckily you can change your nickname! Unluckily, someone else is using "idolminds". So for now I changed it to "idolsmind" and I'm still not terribly happy with that so who knows what I'll use. "idolsminds"? (like demons souls)

And unfortunately only available in certain stores. God damn this region crap.

Luckily on GOG.com The Witcher 2 extras include the comic as a PDF.

Don't feel too bad, I just ran through it and I think the PDF would be a better way to view that story.

So, something cool. Splash Damage (Quake Wars, Q3F) are making a turn based async multiplayer iOS game!

All the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks are 99 cents right now. They say its for the 30th anniversary, but thats not the whole picture. Epic recently acquired the rights to the FF series so the guys that put together the iOS games are going to lose their ability to sell these. They will be pulled from the store so if you buy them be sure to back up your files.

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain
Deathtrap Dungeon
Citadel of Chaos
City of Thieves
Creature of Havoc

Also on sale for 99 cents this weekend is Dungeon Raid!

Pandemic 2.5 released at 99 cents. A port of the flash game with improvements. Instead of playing scientists trying to save the world from a killer virus, you play the virus that must mutate and spread and try to wipe out humanity.
