Frozen Roads
« on: Tuesday, February 01, 2011, 08:01:02 AM »
I just got back from work. It had been drizzling when I went in and over night the temperature went down to the low 20s. The roads were complete ice. I have never driven on roads this bad before, even when I was in Tennessee and we got snow usually the main roads would be much better, but north Texas is not equipped to deal with roads like this. I even tried to take the interstate to see if they were any better, nope, just a thick layer of ice on everything.

I think we've gotten more snow in TN this season than the past 5 years combined.  It has been utterly ridiculous.

Stepped out into the front porch, slid my hand back and forth across the glaring shine on the cement walkway, stepped back inside.  Not going anywhere today.

It's -40 degrees with the windchill here.  No units necessary; -40 is the same in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Haha!  That's right.  Honestly, I would rather see it 20 degrees colder out there today.  Then we'd get all snow, which is much easier to deal with than fucking ice.  A lot less destructive too.

I walked my dog this morning and that was definitely a hazard to my health.  It is fine now though.  The roads are wet, not icy.

Maybe so, but the trees still have about a quarter inch of ice on them.  They keep saying the temperature should be upper 30s, but I see readings between 32 and 34.  Walkways are not just wet either.  My fear is broken tree limbs across power lines.  God I hate that shit, especially now that my UPS batteries need replacement.

Tonight should be warmer, before it gets worse again tomorrow.

You know what's fun?  Working outside when everything is frozen and refusing to wear gloves because "I'm too hard for that kid shit".

The things I do to get this one last summer working in the sun in.

Its windy as hell out there and still snowing. Its been going all day. Dad just came back home and said its even worse out at the road (our house is set back in the woods which blocks a lot of wind). Basically a complete whiteout.

Last week it was -30 here. The walk to work was 25 minutes against 50km/h winds; it was actually painful.

Now it's -10ish and I saw a guy wearing shorts.

Everything is relative I guess.  Some of Jennie's family that lives in South Florida sends us Christmas cards and they are wearing sweaters and scarves and things like that.  What could it be?  65, at worst?  Probably more like 70.
