EA announces another of its top real-time strategy games is headed for Microsoft's console.

On July 5, Electronic Arts released The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360. Initial reaction was skeptical, since real-time strategy had long been the realm of the PC, and commanding an army with a console controller seemed like a dubious scheme at best. However, the critically acclaimed game did fairly well at retail, selling just under 150,000 copies in two months on the 360--around half of what it sold on the PC.

Now, EA is adding another, more storied RTS franchise to its 360 portfolio. Today, the company revealed that Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars would also come to Microsoft's console. Previously announced for the PC, the latest entry in the decade-long series takes place in 2047, when the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod once again lock horns in a battle for world domination.

Like its PC counterpart, the Xbox 360 version of C&C3 will feature online multiplayer action. It will also follow the lead of other recent EA titles by having a variety of content add-ons available from Xbox Live Marketplace. C&C3 will also feature a bevy of voice talent, including Splinter Cell's Michael Ironside, Empire Strikes Back's Billy Dee Williams, and Battlestar Galactica's Grace Park and Tricia Helfer.

No ship date or rating was given for the Xbox 360 edition of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. It, like the PC version, now bears a general "2007" release window.

I don't understand RTS games on consoles. They'll seriously need to make a keyboard+mouse set for it to work. PS3 already has the lead by supporting USB keyboards and mice (and possibly wireless Bluetooth ones as well).

Im curious about the possibility of a RTS game on the Wii using the remote. But this is for the 360 so yea, I dont get RTS games with a controller.

I don't think it is necessary to introduce pure keyboards and mice combos, but they could innovate a device that is good enough to play RTS games. Such controllers could be sold alongside regular ones. I don't see why that can't happen. Trouble is that the RTS market on consoles is so weak, designing a special controller may not be feasible.

Exactly, why are they trying to dig into the RTS market?! They've already sapped the life out of PC's FPS scene! RTS games are PC fans' safe little sanctuary that will always be best on PC.

Have you seen those special game key pads? They made them for Battlefirled 2, Call of Duty 2, and I think LOTR BFME2 as well.

I can see that working out, but the mouse part is the important part for me. I remember for a while I was playing Unreal Tournament with a gamepad+mouse combo and it was fine. I just need the mouse to aim.

Yea that's not bad, but I was think something like that with a little touch censor thing on the side, kind of like what you see on a laptop.

I still think they should ditch the right stick on console controllers and do a trackball instead.  It would be so much better for console FPS games.

Honestly, who really cares?  Let them have their shitty RTS things.  It's not like it really matters.  Just don't buy it.

I was just thinking... this is a Westwood RTS.  A kb/m combo isn't going to make the game suck any less.
