Not to derail the topic too much, but I've noticed this sort of attitude a lot lately: blaming the victim for the crime. Yeah people (and Sony to keep things relevant) do stupid things, but when it comes down to it isn't it the asshole to did something they shouldn't have the real criminal? I've the argument seriously against the victim invoked here (Sony should have had better security), in the story about the reporter raped during celebrations in Egypt a few months ago (she's a woman and was asking for it by being the crowd), and in stories about people being beaten or robbed in bad areas (should know better than to be in those areas) and it blows my mind. It's like the criminal is blameless somehow because someone will always commit the crime. I guess it could come from a more pessimistic view of things, but it's also fucked up way to look at someone who had something terrible happen to them.
Of course, I can understand it more when the victim is a corporation and really the victims are its customers. They could have done things better but I can't separate the fact that ultimately the hackers have done what they did.
