If that was a legitimate article (and not some weird joke) then that author is certifiably ignorant!

The nice thing is that he gets completely hammered in the comments. I didn't see a single person agree with his point of view. So there's some justice. His comment in defense (which is where I stopped reading) says that he was talking about how the gameplay looks like a GoW ripoff, but he spent most of the article talking about most everything else. Clearly, this man should not be writing articles for anyone about anything.

Dean previously worked at the San Jose Mercury News, the Wall Street Journal, the Red Herring, the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register and the Dallas Times Herald. He is the author of two books

....Really?  I mean, it could just be a style that doesn't sit well with me but it seemed like it was written by a high school kid.  I can see someone being a bit ignorant about video games, but working journalists can't both write horribly and make retarded logical arguments. It's kind of get away with one or the other - not both.

Anywaaaaaays, this little gem from the comments:

This is the guy who didn't know you could lvl up in Mass Effect, right? Frigging ridiculous.

Author's Reply: Javier, I was wondering when someone was going to bring that up. :)

which is copying something out of the history of marines.

I must've missed the part where marines fought Orcs in history class...

I also liked this:

It’s similar to complaints people have about Hollywood action movies with car chase scenes.

Because the only part of Hollywood that is every accused of being derivative is the part that focuses on car chases. Car chase mechanics, ironically, are probably the most creative part of Hollywood.

Except for cars flipping over each other on pretend collisions.  That kills any staged car chase for me anymore.

The author added an update which is longer than the whole original article.  So the comments shook him up.

Edit:  Make that much longer than the original.  Heh.

So there you have it. I've apologized. I've clarified. I've admitted stupidity. But I'm also standing by my observation that these games are similar. You can call it a correction, a clarification, a modification, a rewrite -- hey, whatever you want. I'll just call it an update. It is sincere.
