Yeah, of course, you can bind any command to any key! :D

I usually set F as my melee in practically all 1st-person games that have a melee or grab option.

Well, these days and ages in PC versions, sometimes you never know if some keys and some commands are re-bindable or NOT.

i.e. Sleeping Dogs PC Demo didn't allow for me to bind movement commands to cursor keys;
and before a few patches in, The Witcher 2 wouldn't allow for ANYTHING to be binded to NumKeys.

Makes sense - since you probably use WSAD to move.

Holy crap @ this:

Quote
“My mom died when I was six,” Smith explains, clutching his arms and breaking eye contact. “She OD’d in front of me. My dad killed himself. Those two things didn’t happen in a vacuum. There was a lot of trauma that led up to those things, a lot of chaos. Everything would have been fine. I was just a blue-collar kid in a small Texas town. It probably even would have been fine with the drugs and stuff, and the physical abuse. But when you have a parent die that early, it’s shattering. Especially your mother. It’s a lot to come back from. I was that kid. It probably led to writing and escapism and all of that stuff.”

FOV at 85 is fine. The classic games were at FOV 90, anything higher and you started to get a warped parallax view (kinda like fisheye effect).

BethBlog -> Details on 3 upcoming Dishonored DLC's.

Quote
Finish Dishonored, already? Completed a non-lethal playthrough, too? Congrats on being a true supernatural assassin! We recommend you continue honing your skills in preparation for the game’s upcoming game add-on content, Dunwall City Trials.

Dunwall City Trials will arrive simultaneously on PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360. Details on this add-on, as well as future plans, are outlined below:

Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials, being released in December for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points), will include 10 challenge maps that will test and track your combat, stealth and mobility skills. Ten distinct trials await challengers – including an arena battle against waves of enemy AI, a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations, and a race against the clock. Dunwall City Trials also features a whole new set of achievements and trophies as well as a global online leaderboard that will establish the greatest assassins for each challenge.

The second and third add-ons for Dishonored will be coming in 2013 and will each feature story-driven campaigns. Pricing on these two packs will be revealed closer to launch.

Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins known as ‘The Whalers’, will be the focus of the second add-on pack, scheduled for release in early Spring 2013. Make your way through new Dunwall locales and discover Daud’s own set of weapons, powers and gadgets in this story-driven campaign. How you play and the choices you make will impact the final outcome…

Additional story details on the third add-on pack will be revealed closer to its launch next year.

I ordered this for Dishonored PC retail box w/ free shipping yesterday ($25 + FSSS dealing) from Amazon.
That wasn't what I paid for it. :P
I paid $12.65, after using a bunch of my Amazon Points that I've accumulated.

I got that Amazon deal too (today).  No extra coupons or points for me, though.  $25 it is.  Still pretty good.

I installed this last night and downloaded the extra stuff from the voucher.  I played a little bit of the game, not too much. Feeling a little flustered that there's no way to non-lethally take a guard out after he's been alerted, but I am sure that will be remedied at some point.  You could go in guns blazing and just kill everyone, but there's no fun in that.  The game is meant to be played stealthily.  I could see how you could blow through the game quickly, but i can't imagine why anyone would want to.

So far I'm pleased with what I've seen.  There appears to be an ample exploration component, which is always welcome.

Also, save often.  In fact a quicksave function would have been most welcome on the consoles.  If there is one I haven't found it.

Played this game a little bit (still on the first contract), had a bit of trouble staying alive. I've gotten used to the play style of the game and I'm doing much better, I like that this game is more about stealth than running in guns a blazing. I used to hate games like these, now they're my favorite.

I think I'm going to abandon the no-kill run.  2 reasons:  1) Killing people in this game is fun, and 2) It is insanely difficult to do a no-kill run and explore too.

At this time I only have two non-lethal methods at my disposal, and it just isn't enough to work effectively.

The sucky part about the non-lethal approach is there's no way to tell if you've killed anyone, there's no way to track it. I thought I had done a completely non-lethal run until I finished the game and realized that I didn't get the Clean Hands achievement. Apparently, there was an accidental kill early on e.g. someone I knocked out must have landed hard on his head or something.

I ran into a weird glitch yesterday and I haven't seen anyone else say anything about it. During the second assignment, when you do that side job for Slackjaw...the dude just started attacking me for no reason. I didn't kill him, but I hope he won't be forever trying to kill me now.

The Knife of Dunwall was awesome and The Brigmore Witches is shaping up very nicely. Both of them are actually substantial content and add quite a bit of story to Daud's side.

Dishonored ought to have a sequel or at least another tale in its rich world.

UPDATE:
I finished The Brigmore Witches and it was awesome. It really rounds off the Dishonored story. My statement remains, this game needs a sequel!

I'd still really like to try this since the art and atmosphere appeal to me a lot, but I'm generally less fond of mission-based games these days. Are there good achievements and ways to replay segments, or is it just a straight run from mission to mission? Do the DLCs pretty much offer the same format?

It's a combination. It's a linear progression but you have a lot of say in how you approach each mission and how you influence the condition of the world around you. You go mission to mission but within each one you have a sort of open-world style of liberty; the mission is set in a part of the city and you get to explore it, in some instances even revisit areas.

The DLCs basically add more of the same but is a bit more focused and restrictive.

I'll likely try it when it gets cheap enough. Or at least I'll pick it up for a few bucks, sit it on the shelf, and never play it, like I do with most games I get now.

Interesting coincidence, Dishonored is on sale on GamersGate.com, 66% off making it $10.20.

P.S. It's a Steamworks game, so no matter where you get it you'll have to deal with Steam.

After trying (and quickly abandoning) Dead Space last night, I decided to throw this back in.  My last save was from December 24 of last year at the beginning of the 4th mission.  A little unsure of what sidetracked me, but I'm sure it had something to do with holiday festivities and everything that comes with it.  Jumped right back in for the most part, had to get familiar with the equipment and controls again.

Still pretty impressed with the game.  And I can definitely see replay value.  I figure I'll finish this game and then jump back into a long one.  I've got a big list of those...

I'm stuck in this room some storeys up in a building.  Every time I try the game again, I find myself in the same baffling place, wondering what to do.  So I quit, and go do something else.  I've lost familiarity with the game, so it's like a lost cause.  I should start a new game just to get familiar with things again.  Then maybe I can go back to my long-standing game save.

I finished the game last night.  I was a little disappointed with the ending and the last level as a whole.  I guess I had psyched myself up for something that was going to be well beyond the scope of the previous missions, but it ended up being a middle-length (compared to the others) ordeal.  And then I felt like the game ended abruptly.  Not going to give specifics to spoil the game for anyone, but I was a little shocked to see the credits start rolling.  It doesn't set up for a sequel or anything, it just wraps up incredibly fast in the last few minutes.

As a whole the game is excellent, and definitely one of the best new IP's I've played this generation.  It left me wanting more, so I will likely either try to catch a sale on the DLC or the GOTY edition.

A funny thing happened.  The free-with-Gold (Xbox 360) game until the end of August is Dishonored.  I already owned the game on disc, but I went ahead and grabbed the digital version, since it's free, and keeps me from having to insert a disc.  That little advantage made all the difference.  Since I don't have to be swapping discs daily, I got into the game again.  That same old save works too, and I don't know why I was so stuck before, because I can blink out of it easy.  Brain fart?  Whatever.  I ended up playing through the game twice, and damn, it's awesome.  First time, I killed everything in sight, and got the bad ending.  The 2nd time, still Normal difficulty, I went for no killing.  While I didn't quite succeed, I got close enough for the good ending.

Achieving no deaths is harder than it seems.  One mission I ended up with 5 hostiles and 1 civilian killed, when I thought I had 0 kills all around.  I'm guessing that if the assassins I shot with sleep darts fell off the roof, they died, and those counted as kills.  (Damn it, that's not my fault!)  I'm also guessing that
(click to show/hide)
.  Anyway, Just Dark Enough will have to do.  Great experience, and I'm glad this freebie happened, or I would have missed out, since there's always a big game in that tray that I really don't like to be swapping out daily.  (Right now it's AC4: Black Flag.)

I picked this game up a while ago and finally finished it yesterday.  Overall, it's fun, but not spectacular.  The game plays a lot like Deus Ex: Human Revolution to me (with a different setting and story), but I felt that DX:HR does a better job in terms of how things flowed.  That being said, I did enjoy my playthrough of the game.

My playthrough spanned several months as the game did not initially draw me in.  I guess I didn't pay attention on the first mission, because I had two hostiles killed.  The rest of the game was all zeroes, low chaos, never seen, and no kills.  All targets dealt with through indirect means.  If I paid attention I could have had a clean hands run, but alas those two initial kills counted.

If time allows, I may go through it again someday.

I found getting zero kills to be too much of a bitch for enjoyment.  It seems that if anything kills a hostile--even another hostile, you get charged with his death.  Falling in water, walking into a crony's grenade, falling off a rooftop--whatever, it goes against you.  To make things much worse, there's no way to know for sure until the very end of the mission whether you got  through cleanly or not.  I just finished my low-chaos run through Brigmore Witches, and I swear to God on a stack of Bibles that I did not kill or in any way lead to the death of any human beings at all on the last mission--not one, not even close.  Yet on the stats screen at the end--yep, 1 hostile killed.  Fuck you!

So I'll settle for low chaos and the good ending, on both the main game and the 2-part Daud DLC.  I had a lot of fun with it otherwise, in both Rambo and stealth approaches.

I've let other people kill each other and it didn't count against me in the game.  However, you do have to be creative to get a no-kill and no detection run.  I did not sleep dart any guard (I did sleep dart two dogs though).  Instead, I subdued them when it was close quarters, or otherwise completely avoided them using blink and bend time
(click to show/hide)
.  Upgraded stealth boots were also helpful.  Frequent saving is also important.  Inevitably, it does take several tries and attempts to get through any area with no detection so this kind of play-style is not for everyone.  Personally, I love it when games give the player the option of stealth/pacifist.  It does take a lot of experimentation and patience though.

You can kill all the dogs you like.  I'd have slipped into high chaos along the way if dogs mattered.  I do use sleep darts, though I always try to make sure the unconscious body doesn't fall to its death.  (You can tell success by the "(unconscious)" text that pops up when you look at the body closely.  If that doesn't show, I reload my previous save--yes, creep-'n-save is encouraged, and I am a master at it.)   Also Daud's pull ability (level 2) is awesome, because you can yank someone right to you, whether or not they detected you, and then choke them.  That plus the strong-arms bone charm make non-lethal combat almost too easy. though it takes a while to get all this goodness, and this is on the DLC only.  Daud also gets up to 15 sleep darts, and 2 forms of non-lethal explosives.  And I still can't seem to get 0 kills.  Grr!

I hear what you're saying about total stealth (called "Ghost" in the stats screen).  Clearly, you enjoy that more than I do.  I want to go in there and kick ass.  After all, these people are my enemies, and not very nice.  :)
