I have to confess I had no idea who she was until this happened.  What I've seen of her since looks like a train wreck, musical talent aside.  Shame, but there's no one to blame here but her.  She's in good company.  (Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix spring to mind, among others.)

I don't feel too bad for her, she did it to herself.  Sure, she was hopelessly addicted and I've seen what that can do to people first hand and how difficult it is to fight such addictions, but no one forced her to take the drugs in the first place.  I mean how many people do heroin and end up living a long life and how well known are its addictive affects?  There is no way but down once you start.

I worked with drug addicts for a time, but even still I'm finding it very difficult to feel sorry for her.

In a way, the people that were around her that continued to enable her behavior are more at fault.
