Mark of the Ninja
« on: Wednesday, February 29, 2012, 01:52:51 PM »
Site

Play a short little text adventure to get to the teaser trailer. This is the next game from the creators of Shank. Trailer only mentions XBLA at the end, but I'm hoping for a PC release.

Or if you don't want to play the text adventure (you monster), you can see the trailer below.

Btw, I'm already anxious about this. I hope it's coming to PC.

I had ignored this, but I ran across its gamerankings page and was surprised to see all the positive press.  I'm going to be trying it out at least.

So...will it REQUIRE Steam everywhere?
Or will there ALSO be a DRM-FREE version on GOG?

Wait, its also coming to GoG? Because their DRM-free rules probably excludes games that require Steam. If so that would be amazing.

No, no - let me be clear...
I'm asking is it going to GOG also?

EDIT:
Here's why I'm asking...
Alan Wake + American Nightmare are DRM-FREE most places.
On GOG only, it's DRM-FREE.
That's why I'm asking...

Any idea who's the publisher? Microsoft Game Studios?

I don't think it's EA this time around (previously published Shank and Shank 2 for Klei), otherwise there would be an Origin release as well.

The lack of GFWL would indicate to me that its not MGS, but other than that there aren't any details like that.

So I picked this up on that Amazon sale not long ago and finally got my ass to the book store so I could download it. So far, its pretty great. And I haven't unlocked anything or even played the second level.

Theres probably some crazy replay value in here. So I went through the first level like a n00b, got seen a couple times, fucked up my stealth kills, etc. So instead of moving on to level 2...lets do level 1 again! This time I made sure to nail my stealth kills. Then I find you get bonus points for letting guards pass you undetected, and then you stealth kill them, then you hide the body for a whole bunch of points. It also seems pretty lenient in some ways. Did you just screw up a kill? Reload checkpoint and do it again. Thats very useful because there are these secondary objectives in the levels, like "Rescue so and so without being detected." I was going for that and got detected a couple times, but reloading the checkpoint also reset the status of those objectives so I was still able to earn it.

Anyway, its quite fun if you like being all stealthy and murdery.

Man, great game. I just beat it. Don't let my speed fool you, I did basically nothing but play it all day today. Its pretty substantial. I'm not going to spoil the ending, but it pretty awesome.

Really nice stealth mechanics. There isn't really any time pressure so you're free to move around the environment and figure out how you want to tackle things. You can go through levels killing everything, or not killing anything. In fact there is a end of level score bonus for making it through without killing anyone, and you can eventually unlock a ninja outfit that has no sword or ability to kill.

Which of course I totally want to try doing now. A new game plus also opened up which makes it a bit harder.

So this is a game that I'd play an hour or so every six months and then forget about.  I just put in a shift while sick the other day and finally played through it and I'm really glad I did.  I'm really picky when it comes to stealth games (I don't enjoy the mechanics of a lot of them) but this was amazingly fun.
