PS3 Super Slim
« on: Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 09:38:42 PM »
Er, ok I guess.

Half the size of the original PS3, 25% smaller than the Slim. $269 for 250GB HDD version, $299 for 500GB. Available next week.

Oh, just got a tweet from official Playstation that there is a bundle with Uncharted 3 GOTY. Was a GOTY version of that even announced before this? Who knows, but hey maybe I can grab that now.

In other news, I totally had no idea Tokyo Game Show was on right now.

Muramasa for Vita. Ok, not going to rush out to get a Vita for that but thats still pretty cool.

Looks like Sony are keeping the PS3 alive indefinitely. Interesting design though I'm content with my PS3 Slim and my brother loves his classic PS3. At those prices it might make a decent gift for anyone I wanna bring into console gaming.

Interesting!  I'll be keeping an eye on that.  My feeling is that it's destined to get cheaper in that small form.

Oh, but then again . . .

Short story, the yen's value has gone up so much that the cheaper hardware only compensates, and prices stay the same or go up slightly.  Shit.  I still think they'll have to cut the price to the bone soon enough, with the new gen on the horizon.

Is the new generation of hardware actually on the horizon?  It seems only Nintendo is there and the other two seem content considering the Wii/Wiiu basically targets a different market and doesn't directly compete.

Well, technically the WiiU is using current-gen tech and nobody feels threatened it by it (yet). We already know that Microsoft and Sony are looking into new hardware and tech for console options but there's no official word just yet. The going rumour is that Microsoft will make an announcement by next E3 but I honesty think we might not see anything solid until 2014 or maybe by end of 2013.

Yes, that's my guess too.  Holiday season next year, or shortly thereafter.  MS and Sony will have an increasingly hard time getting people to buy a current console for full retail, because gamers know what's coming (more or less).
