What's he talking about regarding the popular vote? CNN shows the results currently are 59.6 million for Obama and 57.0 for Romney. I also wonder if he felt the same way in 2000. Doubt it, since the Republicans won.

Obama won both ways. But what I find funny is that a prominent republican would now be calling for the abolition of the electoral college. Traditionally it has helped republicans, by preventing the more liberal East and West coasts, with their dense populations, from dominating the whole country. Ohio, where I live, is a microcosm of the country, with popular percentages that mirror the nation as a whole. And Ohio has often gone republican in the past. It's national, and it's not a sham.
Having said that, I must admit I voted a straight republican ticket, not because I like those guys, but because I dislike them less than the current democrats. That decision went down to the wire, as in I thought I wasn't going to vote at all as recently as last week. Don't want any of these bozos in power.
The worst part of it all is that we still have a government as divided and ineffectual as the rest of the country.

I don't think they are being facetious. The woman's friends all appear to be very conservative as all the comments I've seen on her pro-Romney/anti-Obama statuses the last month or so have been all siding with her.
My mother is part of that crowd, sadly. She's allowed a lot of fearmongering to rattle her for months, despite all my warnings to her about it. I keep telling her that random emails and posts are mostly falsehoods, and cannot be taken as anything but noise without independent verification. It doesn't help. I gave up, and I simply avoid the subject with her as much as possible.
