Here's hoping all the good people of Lucasarts find better jobs in better places.

Not really. It sounds like they are closing internal development and will be farming the IPs out to others, which honestly is probably a good thing.

Well, this news sucks...

When is Grim Fandango, Maniac Mansion, and Day of the Tentacle getting a re-release on some digital store like Steam, GOG, Gamersgate, Origin, etc?

I don't know why the internet is over reacting to this.

Probably a lot sooner now than it would have been.

Nostalgia.

It is sad, though.  Lucasarts was one of THE premier PC developers when I first got my PC.  Their adventure games set a gold standard.

I hate to see it end like it did, but maybe we'll finally get a proper reissue of Grim Fandango.  My burned copy crashes, so I've never been able to play through it.  And I'm certainly not keen on paying ebay prices.

1 - What K-man said
2 - Disney swallowed Lucas stuff, killed LucasArts a few months later.  Disney, already reviled in some circles, is now the devil to some.

Disney took them off of life-support after they had already been clinically dead for years. I did love Lucas Arts though. Sadly, this wasn't the Lucas Arts I loved. Perhaps only in name it was.

Pug, I think we're basically getting to the age where a lot of things from our childhood have either been re-imagined or just aren't what they used to be.  It seems like every other day we're losing something "pop culture" from our childhood, be it our favorite magazine, a reboot of a cartoon we loved, a game studio closing down.

It sucks, but what are you going to do?  Nostalgia sure is a son of a bitch sometimes.

Aside from the Jedi Knight series and the old school adventure games, I don't think I played many LucasArts games.  A lot of it was hit and miss.  They definitely have a decent library of classics, but I don't think anyone will actually miss them in the long run especially since none of their recent releases were any good.

At least LucasArts sort of just disappeared before being killed off.  This unlike my beloved Sierra On-Line which made and published many of my favorite PC games from my childhood and then became just a really shitty publisher for a long time before finally being euthanized.
