Prison Break isn't bad.
« on: Thursday, November 30, 2006, 11:03:29 AM »
Saw the first 5 eps., pretty good so far, but I can't see this series going beyond a couple of seasons... unless something lame happens like for instance.

I think the show's pretty cool, but they do rely on the lame a lot to progress some parts of the story and to prolong others.

Oh, and if you think that's the worst way they can end the season (your spoiler) then be prepared for the lamest ending to any season of any show you've ever seen.  The end of the first season was so fucking shitty that I lost interest in the show.  I've seen the newer seasons here and there, and they're pretty good.  I kinda want to get back into it.

The ending to the fall run of the show was pretty fuckin weak sauce... predictable and poorly executed.

The second season was fairly good though, I was entertained. apparently they aren't planning on making more than 4 seasons, so eventually it will end.

I enjoyed the first season, and have reasonably been enjoying the second.  The plot progressions are getting a little outlandish and the show gets a little more ridiculus at every turn.  The finale is this week if I remember correctly, and I don't really care what happens.

I only watched a tiny bit of the season.. It seemed interesting at first.. Two bros working it out etc. I miss my bro. Then I just got bored of the show..

Why is it still called Prison Break? Didn't they already break out of the prison in the first season? I just can't see the show going much longer than the second season.. How long could you possibly stretch a "Prison Break?"

I read these things called books.  They're awesome.  You should try some.

Neil Gaiman's "Fragile Things" is now in stores!  Wink wink, nudge nudge!

I do so much reading for university that the last thing I want to spend my free time doing is sitting and reading

I read The Joy Luck Club in 9th grade and vowed never to read again.  6 years strong so far.

I finally figured out why I don't enjoy reading books (at least one reason).. I hate the smell. Some books have this old, musty odour, and others have this overwhelming chemical smell, almost like burnt plastic. I first noticed this when I found that I was reading eBooks a lot more avidly than the old fashioned variety. So I visited the libraries and book stores, and it finally dawned on me why I hate being in them! Between the bizarre odour, the dank atmosphere, and the absence of sunlight they're not my kind of place.

Sure books are great, but they take up too much space. I prefer audio books anyway.

But yeah, Prison Break.. It's ~meh.

Haha I'll hang in a library if a pretty lady tempts me every once in a while :D She'd have to pretty damn hot for me to go that far! :P

You're not alone man, I always get ditched when my friends go to the library or book store.. I can't spend too much time inside, so I have to get some fresh air.

Seriously though, I've always had a keen sense of smell so the pungent aroma of old literature hits me like bag of bricks. It gives me a headache.. Then I start feeling claustrophobic. I tried reading at the beach, but the sea breeze is just a much nicer scent ;D If I need to read something I'll do it, but usually I'll convince someone to read out to me  8) I like listening.

I hate ebooks, and the only reason I like audio books is because I get to listen to them while I'm toiling away at work.  But I love the smell of old books.  New ones, too.  I just love books in general.  They're never going to be improved upon, either, and I think anyone who says ebooks are the wave of the future has another thing coming.  Some people might take to that, but most of us, even the younger ones, like *real* books.

Hehe sorry Que :D

I don't think eBooks are the way of the future.. The scrolling can be inconvenient, and the inevitable eye-strain is irritating. Plus I can't read an ebook while I'm lying down.. But I can actually read them without getting a whiff of weirdness or the resulting headache. Ideally I'd have everything printed on papyrus! It smells great, it's natural, and it's kinda cool. Hopefully someone will invent cool digi-books like the ones in Minority Report.

I like atlases and picture books! Physics, Biology, Astronomy.. Science books in general really suck me in.. Though that's the intellectual side of things.. I can't read a novel.. It's very difficult to find one that actually appeals to me. Pug got me a really cool birthday present a while back! It was a Rainbow Six audio book! And it was awesome! It made me want to read Without Remorse! I miss Pug.. he was my window to narrative literature.

Poor Que. I'm a nerd. I just read sci-fi, nothing that advances my knowledge in anyway. Though I've been thinking of picking out some psych books.

Seriously dude, spoilers.  >:(

I read a lot as well Que. :P That's why I don't have a handheld... my handheld moments are taken by reading.. i.e. near sleeping time.

Also I hate ebooks, but partially because I love holding and smelling a book haha... but I can really see the value of audio books, though I wouldn't go for one. I have gotten a few friends to appreciate stuff that way haha.

Hey Xessive, you read Without Remorse?

Hey Xessive, you read Without Remorse?
Not yet, but I'm getting to it ;D I still have to finish Taipan (it was a gift from my aunt). I haven't touched it in months either.

Some people read, I prefer to experience things for myself :) When we were kids our teachers would always encourage us to read and tell us about the "magic of reading" and how you can be anywhere and do anything when you're reading a captivating story.. I never had that "magical" experience everyone keeps talking about. Novels always feel like someone's 'telling' me a story rather than 'showing' it to me. Usually I'll start off excited and I let my imagination soar, but then I realize that what I was imagining was too far from what the book was describing and it gradually gets dull as I notice the book is just another literary attempt at stimulation. I don't know.. I guess my imagination is just more stimulated by gazing at the horizon than navigating my way through someone else's words.

That's why I prefer science books and factual literature.. I figure if I'm gonna read I may as well be learning and absorbing information that I can use.

Eh.  Factual literature gets no love from me.  The world is boring as fuck and I hate it.  We have all these limits, all these rules, and attempting to get outside them involves dedicating your life to things and throwing away so much.. sacrificing like crazy in order to get that one thing that really grabs you.  Fiction allows you to experience a life that isn't as shitty as the one we live in, and it allows you to do it without giving up anything at all other than a little bit of your time.

I mean, that's not entirely true for me, because I've read plenty of books on philosophy and history, but you see what I'm getting at.

Anyway, I feel better now.  And you guys know that whether or not you ever read, you're all obligated to buy a copy of my book when it gets published, right?  Because I'm poor and had to eat my furniture to survive on at least two occasions in the last year?  And because I have an injured puppy who needs constant love and care and requires hundreds of dollars a minute in order to stay happy and cute in his injured state?

Um, what if we download it off th--*SMACK!!!* YOU VILL NOT INSULT ZE QUEMAQVA!

Yeah I get you though.. Immersing fiction is like an escape from restrictive reality.

I'm a free spirit any way, so I don't mind harsh reality.. It's just a circumstance in the end :P I've lost enough times to know that in the end it doesn't matter. As long as you survive, you'll come out of it stronger, and that's all that counts. Man, now I really feel like chocolate.. All this talk about loss and escaping reality reminds me of that chocolate bar I didn't get! I'll be in a while.
