Daylight
« on: Friday, May 02, 2014, 02:51:37 PM »

It recently hit Steam. I've been playing some of this every now and again. It's been getting some heavy criticisms: confusing environments, cheap jump scares, and a disconnected plot. I wanted to check it out because both its a interesting looking horror game and former IGN employee, Rebel FM podcaster Anthony Gallegos worked on it from Zombie Studios. It's also has some inspirations from Slender. I mostly agree with the criticisms. I finding myself getting really disorientated as to where I am supposed to go or what I'm supposed to do. I'm also trying to make sense of the narrative if whether or not its going somewhere. I do find the atmospheric to be competent and the cheap jump scares themselves to work every now and again so I'm at least enjoying it for what it has. But I recently looked up on it a little bit more and discovered surprisingly that the game itself, plot, and dialogue is primarily responsible from former IGN's Jessica Chobot, seriously, she did most of it. The whole article is here. So yea, Its been interesting observing this game coming from some former gaming press people.

Seems a bit hard to fault a zombie game for jump scares and trying to make you feel confused and lost. Though I'd probably be playing Outlast instead of this were I in the mood for a PC horror game of this type.
