Divine Divinity was surprisingly great. The really only thing I did not care for about the game (in its final patched-up version) was its audio voice-work was anywhere from awful to good. Most of the quests were straight-forward; but some had decisions to make in quests. Though, the world was open to the player completely. Oh, and the Inventory and Interface was as clean as they get. I think many of the more modern RPG's have learned from how this game does Interfaces.
Beyond Divinity was...well, I never finished it -- b/c many other games came along and I never get around to the point of finishing it. But what I played of it, it was good. And one thing I noticed, is that more of the quests here (when in comparison to Divine Divinity) had a choice of good or bad. Though, the gameworld itself was less open-ended than Divine, as it did not let you wander anywhere you choice. Beyond was split into "Acts."
Given what we've read about Divinity 2, it sounds it is going further w/ these quests than the last two. The 3D graphics look good; and hopefully, the game will look great and not be buggy upon release. And hopefully, like Divine Divinity, the world will be more open to the player than Beyond Divinity. Regardless, I'm expecting and hoping for another at least solid entry into the Divine series. Larian has yet to disappoint me when it comes to that regard.
